That Johnson & Johnson commercial!!!!!!!!!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So I am sitting in my living room, watching TV and eating lunch when the "Become a Nurse" commercial from J & J comes on.

And I am annoyed by it!.

I changed the channel. But that got me thinking about the content of the ad. While I am happy that the company is doing its part to help ease the shortage, the silly song is a big turn-off to me. "They dare to care" You see nurses briefly talking about nursing.. " I can't have a bad day... " Oh, come on! How realistic is that?. EVERYONE has bad days, no matter what profession you are in. Anyway, that is just part of the reason why it annoys me.

I can recall an ad years ago, that helped in my decision in becoming a nurse..

Its main theme was, "Do you have what it takes to be a nurse?, do you enjoy the challenge of studying anatomy, physics, chemistry...etc... it also showed nurses in high-stress situations "running the show"....

I wonder what happened to that commercial?

I am going to write J & J and offer some (unsolicited) advice. At least change that silly song.

Is anyone else annoyed by the song in the commercial? content?

I have yet to see an ad directed at future doc's with sentimental, mushy music.... the AMA would have none of that .

Specializes in NICU- now learning OR!.

But, who are you to tell me to "relax"?.

Okay, don't relax...get a hobby... or channel that enthusiasm/passion into making a difference in other peoples lives...(as you already do being a nurse)

I agree with QueenNurse and apaisRn......

and would like to add that I am more upset about shows that are for 12 year olds that contain sexual content, etc.

I am more upset about discrimination, and the lack of quality health care for the poor.....(I could go on and on)

I am less upset about a 30 second commercial that isn't as realistic as it could be.....

I wanted to find out if that darn song was annoying anyone. Some of you have said that, yes, it is annoying.

Some of you have said that, no, that you like the song.

It was just a simple question. I RESPECT YOUR OPINIONS.

When I picked up on the "Oh well, at least we are on the tube...so don't complain"... attitudes I offered my opinion (s)on this. I believe that our profession deserves better and if writing a letter to a company helps us do just that... then I will do it.

If this topic sounds trivial to you, fine. If anyone believes that I have nothing better to do with my time, that is fine as well. Cheap shots are just that, cheap.

I march to the beat of my own drum. Always have and I always will. If I see something that I don't agree with I will speak up.

I hold no hard feelings towards anyone. Thanks for taking the time to offer your opinions. I learned a lot.

God bless.

Is there somewhere I can see this online? I sometimes need to test my gag reflex.

The nurse commercial is the 3rd one down. Might want to put a plastic cover over your keyboard and mouse - just in case you can't hold your cookies.

Accurate communications is apparently the consulting firm behind it. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!

Dear Moderator,

Can you close this thread?. Thanks.

I guess I haven't seen it...anyone got a link for me to watch it?

I can see that add attracting people to nursing. They won't stay long however. Sure doesn't show the public how hard we work though does it?

"Never a bad day" HA!!! That has got to be the slowest most laid bad ER I have ever seen. Maybe I'll try to get a job there.

Nursing made me realize I could do things I never thought possible. I love the commercial. It's true that you can't have a bad day in the sense that you have to successfully wear "many hats" without tipping over. Sure, everybody has a "bad day", literally. But if you're portraying that to your patients, it is NOT helping their care (as everybody knows). I don't care if a nurse OR an M.D. has a bad day. Just don't bring it into my hospital room if I'm ever your patient!

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

At least the nurses in that advertisement were dressed in scrubs.

Thanks for the web address! I can't comment on the commercial because I haven't seen it yet, but I will look at it when I get to a computer that will let me! The commercial I like and has been very inspirational to me is the Integris commercial that uses "I know you by heart" as they are talking about a lady meeting the man who got her son's heart. That one gets me every time.

By the way, you can go to that website and email the advertising company, if you want. Or, to get to that directly http://www.accuratecommunications.com/contact-us.html

The nurse recruitment act granted monies to be used to encourage nursing enrollment. Money from the Dept. of Health and Human Services was given via grant to Johnson & Johnson. Also included were an increase in student nursing loans. (I would rather have more in individual grants, but, no one asked me.)

(I had the site with the Johnson & Johnson info... but lost it due to that darn spy#$%@. Will keep trying to find the info... if someone else has info, please post it).

P.S. If this info is wrong... let me know. I am going on what one news site said, from a site that I no longer have access to.

I've been nursing for several years and.......Yes you can have bad days and do.
