Jobs (my license is on probation)

Nurses General Nursing

I am looking for a job in a hospital. I am having 1 problem my license is on probation. It has nothing to do with my nursing skills or ability. I have my bsn and in a master's program. I want to travel to hospitals to help in ICU in Indiana. I am willing to go to areas that give bonuses for completing the assignment. I just want back in the hospital. I was in a hospital ICU but was given a contract job then just before starting it they called to tell me they couldn't use me so I was job less. Can anyone help or know of a hospital that hires nurses on probation, no restrictions, working home healthcare but want more.

The problem is that there is a glut of nurses. Plenty of them to go around. Therefore when your resume is held up against another, even a new grad, the hospital is going to pick the free and clear license every time. I think hoping for a job with a bonus plan is unrealistic at best. How long do you have to wait until your license is clear again?

Beggars cannot be choosers in this ultra-competitive employment market. If 50+ nurses are applying for each available hospital job opening, the applicants with clear licensure will be considered and hired first.

Hospitals do not have to deal with candidates on probation. You'd have better luck securing employment at a SNF, nursing home, home health company, assisted living facility, or freestanding post-acute rehabilitation hospital. Good luck to you!

Maybe you could do a non-hospital job temporarily until your license is off probation?

Travel agencies (and agencies in general) may seem to take anyone still breathing, but they actually want one more thing, and this thing is clean license.

I am afraid that you will have to contend yourself with non-hospital jobs till your probation is over. Especially if the business is about controlled substances.

Actually, in the ICUs in Indiana there is a large shortage right now. But, I do not think they hire licenses on probation. They are hiring many of us getting ready to graduate. I also know many hire agency nurses. You may want to try agency. I know my unit uses agency.

Certain hospitals out here are paying large incentive bonuses to their employees for overtime. You may be stuck in home health care until your license is off probation. Complete the required time for your probation and then try to get in to a hospital.

I recently read an article that the shortage here in IN will get worse before it gets better.

The issue my license was placed on probation had nothing to do with my nursing skills, addiction, or illegal action.

I worked at a correctional facility and did not know an ex-boyfriend from when I was 18 and I emailed him on their email system. IA put 2+2 and found out it was me. They said they was not going to report it to ISB but did. The ISB did not allow me or my attorney to defend me. I was guilty period!!

I have no restrictions. I have to request to be taken off probation in October.

Employers don't care why your license is on probation even if it's for emailing a prisoner via work computer while working at prison? It doesn't matter. There is zero incentive for an employer to consider a nurse with a license on probation. Especially with dozens of nurses with unrestricted licenses applying for the same job.
