First, let me apologize if I sound whiney... don't mean to do that because it's one of my pet peeves about patients.

I hurt my back last week at work repositioning a patient with a CNA. I was pulling the patient toward me while she was shoving a pillow under the patient. I never felt anything pull or pop, but not long after, the pain started. Now, one week later, the pain is mostly in my thigh and hip. It's a burning sensation and I can't get any relief.

I don't know how long I'll be off work. Supposed to start PT tomorrow, but not sure how that's going to work because I'm really hurting.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any encouraging stories, words of wisdom, and especially your prayers! Just feeling a little down right now.

Did you report this to your unit manger/supervisor so the proper forms could be filled out for workman's comp? I have been very lucky, no major injuries on the job. I have known several nurses that got harrassed thought about coming back to work before they are able to. You need to go through the proper channels though in a timely manner. My facility you have 24 hours to report a work injury.

I am sorry to hear about your back injury, unfortunatly it is one of the biggest problems in our line of work. I wish you a speedy recovery. You need to do PT even if you are hurting because it will help prevent further problems take an anti-inflammatory before you go.

I had the same problem and not just once. After talking to PT I got some strengthening/stretching exercises to do for my back, and also became a lot more back conscious as far as what I can and can't do. I wish you luck and hope everything turns out fine!

Hi, I have unfortunately been injured several times at work. Did you see a doctor (either in the ER your your PCP)? You should have gotten a note from the doctor that specifically says "may return to work on x day, and when returns may lift x lbs" I know some managers won't even let you return to work unless you have a doctor's note saying you are cleared to return.

PT will really help. It's really helping me after my last injury. Don't worry, they'll go gentle on you at first, just tell them you're still sore.
