As a project in school, I have to debate white nursing uniforms vs. colored uniforms. I'd love to have your thoughts on this topic.:coollook: Please tell me WHERE you work and what you WEAR!

Lots and lots of threads on this very topic. Might want to click the "search" button and enter the word uniforms.

I work for the Veterans Administration at a hospital in Kansas City MO. At that hospital I work on Inpatient Pyshiatric ward. Our uniforms for most of the people are jeans and a nice dress shirt. Right up my alley.

:balloons: :rotfl:

:) I am a staff RN at a university hospital and work in oncology. I like to wear colored tops and bottoms not only for myself but because most of patients enjoy seeing bright colors. I always get compliments on my fun tops. Most of our patients are in the hospital for a significant amount of time and they enjoy seeing somthing that isnt so plain.

I Have Worked Many Differant Places And With Different Dress Codes...smartest Was A Lab Coat With About Five Different Colors .. You Could Wear Scrubs In Every Color But They Asked That You Not Combine The Colors..ie..if You Wore Purple Both Top And Pants Would Be Purple...some Nurses With The Skills Made Thier Own...that Way You Did Not Have To Wear The Same Thing Every Day But A Uniform Is Easier To Wash Iron And Throw On Than Street Clothes...besides You Usually Want More Expensive Street Clothes Than A Uniform...i Would Hate To See Something Real Nice Ruined At Work

I think that in different facilities there should be nurses wearing colors, other than white. Like in a psych facility, bright colors are a great idea (from the above poster), it would make patients feel better. And maybe in an MD office, there could be prints, or in peds, a "cartoon" shirt or jacket is great. (The children might not be so afraid if they saw someone familiar, and Spongebob could take their minds off shots....) However, in the hospital setting, there are so many different people wearing scrubs, white is exclusively left for nursing. I think white was distinguished a long time ago as a tradmark for a nurse. The patients that I have asked, cannot tell the difference from the CNAs, PT/OT, Rt therapists, or radiology techs! If white is used for nursing only, it might be less confusing for the patients. ALSO, whites can be bleached, killing all of those "special bugs" we might bring home.....:)

I would never wear white. Too impractical. I work in NICU and wear coloured tops and scrub pants, just like I did when I worked in L&D. The babies never complain:)

I work in a walk-in clinic and wear colorful tops and solid color pants. Often times I wear cartoon character tops (we have a lot of pediatric clients and the adults tend to get a kick out of it too). One thing I cannot stand is the printed scrub pants. Something about those makes me think of pajamas.

I understand the need in a hospital setting to have different departments wear different colors. And I know that people in other disciplines wear scrubs, and don't have a problem with that. Heck, they're comfy! Who doesn't want to be comfortable?

I'm not into the whole "nurses wear white" thing. Personally white makes me look like an albino roly-poly that can't keep themself clean. And no matter what you wash it with or how much you bleach it, white starts looking nasty after a short while. And white duty shoes? Please! Those things are very uncomfortable and look nasty after a few days of wear. I bought a pair of white clogs and they look awful after very little use.

I had to wear the hat in nursing school and it was the dumbest, most awkward contraption I've ever worn. :nurse:

I work in a rehab facility and we wear whatever. I usually wear print top and colored or white pants. White goes with everything! In the facility I used to work at nursing wore white pants, CNA's wore navy pants, housekeeping wore beige pants, dietary wore turquoise pants and whatever color shirt we all wanted. That way with the pants everyone even visitors knew what department you were in.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that that post had almost every word starting with a capital letter.....
