I had a positive experience at urgent care yesterday

I had an exacerbation of an old back injury last Wed. I thought it would get better and was doing everything (NSAIDS, BenGay, heating pad, jacuzzi, massage, rest) but it just kept getting worse. Yesterday, a large lump of spasming muscle appeared. The pain was incredible. So, I finally broke down and went to uregent care.

The place was neat and clean, staff friendly. I was told the wait would be approx 3 hrs. I was given the option of going home and calling the triage nurse q 1 hr and asking if it was my "turn" yet.

That's what I did. When they said it was time to see me, I drove over, and waited approx 45 mins longer, not bad.

Due to the "go home and call for your turn" option, the waiting room was quiet and calm. No screaming kids running all over the place.

The doc was an actual caring human being, who did not treat me like a drug seeker. He actually wrote me a script for a narc (gasp!) AND wrote a note for me to show my boss, restricting me to no bending, lifting no more than ten lbs for two weeks.

He advised me to make an appt w/ a neuro.

The script has only taken the edge off. I'm still in a lot of pain. I'm afraid my back may be really screwed up this time. :o

However, it was a really postive urgent care experience.

I have only had two back problems my entire life. I feel your pain. I hurt my back yesterday, sitting indian style near my mom and dad's grave planting flowers. I twisted to grab a flower and WHAM. I got the muscle spasm thing going on as well.

I hope your back feels better soon. I am glad your experience to urgent care was good as I am considering going myself.

It is nice to have good experiences like once and a while. The health care system can work! I hope your back feels better soon.

I love urgent care. The one and only times I've been to an MD was an urgent care visit for tonsilitis. They treated me well, were nice, wrote scripts, etc. No need for a primary care visit. I just walked on in.

The other time I've used them was for a physical for my Florida nursing license. Again a positive experience.

Hope your back gets better. :)

Yep--sorry for your pain. I threw my back out many years ago and I remember how excruiating the pain was. Glad the urgent care was able to help out. Rest up and feel better soon!
