1. I am a Nursing Director (glorified title for nsg. supervisor) in Chicago. Level 1 trauma, very busy inner city hospital.

2. 18 years experience.

3. BSN degree.

4. $70K/yr. + partially paid medical/dental/life insurance. Employer-matched 401K plan.

I am in shock about the $125K+$10K sign-on for the NICU manager in S. Texas and the $92K for the staff nurse in Houston--did you both negotiate your salaries, or are institutions just paying that much to recruit and retain qualified nurses? It looks like most of the nurses from the Midwest are being paid poorly in relation to Texas--is it the nursing shortage? It certainly isn't cost of living! Chicago is comparable to either coast for cost of living, and salaries aren't even close to what the Texas nurses say they're making. I am dumbstruck! eek.gif
