House, Grey's Anatomy make me mad

Nurses General Nursing

Published

It just really ticks me off how they glorify Doctors. They make them look like a lot of them are these great patient advocates with the time and desire to sit there and build a relationship with their patients. I remember on grey's, Izzy and the other girl ( i can't remember) had to search through this kid's poop to look for monopoly pieces... um YEAH RIGHT. Then on House I constantly see them drawing labs... right.

Oh yeah, i loved this line...

"Is this all nurses do?"

"Well, the doctor doesn't trust them to do more"

tv shows are written for the lowest common denominator...it would confuse the general populace to see the truth

What??? The doctors don't do all the work? Are you sure? That's what I get for watching too much TV! LOL. I am totally joking y'all. It is misleading, itsn't it?

I sometimes feel this way myself when they push the nurse around and make it seem like they are worthless. But does the general population actually pick up on this? The show is about dr's and not nurses, so I try not to take it too personally. Also, how many people who write these shows are actually medical people? Maybe the person who writes house, but I dunno about the Grey's lady.

I don't watch these shows to see how they portray nurses, I watch them bcuz I enjoy the drama and excitement of it all. Besides, anyone who's been in the hospital themselves has somewhat of an understand of what nurses do as opposed to the dr's.

I agree... And its not like you can trust TV to portray anything correctly. Its fiction and its for entertainment purposes. If we had to watch real life on tv it would be BORING (and im not talking about any edited 'reality' show documentary).

I dont like Grays anatomy at all, mainly because the sex and love drama and the main character ANNOY me.

I really like ER, although they are tyring to be a little more like Greys anatomy now..........:uhoh3:

Specializes in NICU.

I was just listening to LoveLine with Dr. Drew tonight and he said how much he hated Grey's because it's so ridiculously untrue. He said he used to be in charge of residents early in his career, and if any of them had acted like they do on the show they would have gotten the boot immediately. I felt the same way about ER when I used to watch it years ago- I'd be screaming at the television and driving my hubby NUTS, and that show had medical consultants! And forget all of those less-than-memorable shows on Lifetime or Oxygen. ER was the closest thing to being real, and that isn't saying much! I had to stop watching for the health of my marriage and as an attempt to maintain whatever sanity I had left. I was always like:

(standing up and knocking my hubby off of the couch)

"Yeah, RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT, like that WOULD EVERRRRRRRRRR HAPPEN!!!"

and then go off on a rant about the "reality" of healthcare.

Yikes. Now I just watch Nip/Tuck. ;>)

I like grey's anatomy it happens to be my favorite show. that and scrubs

Umm, Change the channel, you can probably use the remote.

I can't believe how many bits and bytes get used up around here on such silly subjects, IT'S TV. IT'S ENTERTAINMENT. It's there to get people to watch so the ads are worth more. If you need a documentary about nursing or healthcare you may have to write it yourself wait for one on Discovery.

Specializes in Public Health.

Of course TV is for the ads, we all get that, but it can also be fun. I like Grey's alot. Not real, but nice for a break from real life. Enjoy.;)

Specializes in burn, geriatric, rehab, wound care, ER.

Im a Nip/tuck fan too -it's just so NASTY! House is laughable. I work in an ER so I don't need to watch it on TV when I get home. Basically I tear these shows apart because their portrayals of RN's are so ridiculous and ruin them for everyone around me, so I don't bother and my husband now knows better than to even attempt to watch one. I'm a big crime show fan (Medium is my favorite) but then I don't know anything about that, so its fun.

yeah, me too, i like grey's anatomy, i don't mind watching it because it entertains me. don't get me wrong, i like other real medical related shows on discovery channel, but after a long day at work, i just wanted to relax. it is weird that i still find myself watching grey's anatomy, ( i just like to look at the male docs in that show :-), i hardly see a goodlooking ones at work, because most of them are either too grumpy, old with potbelly, stuck up, or dorky looking. i like house m.d. because of hugh laurie's antics ( okay you can hate me for that). scrubs is funny too, are they still on? or was it cancelled? i always liked e.r., but since clooney, and the rest of the original e.r. guys left, i didn't wanna follow it anymore. i always noticed the mistakes they do on any procedures on television like cpr, or the terminology etc., i am a nurse, hello. but i learned to seperate myself from reality of my job when i want to watch tv.

Specializes in Cardiac/Tele/Step-down.

I watch Grey's when I get the chance. It's funny and it cracks me up. I don't pay attention to the medical stuff. I just like it. I'm sure cops say the the same things about cop shows.lol

Anyways, One night while sitting at the rounder (4 nurses and 2 drs),we started talking about tv. 1 nurse said "Hey don't you notice there is only 1 nurse on that entire show?" and another nurse agreed with her, but of course me and my smart mouth said: "Could you imagine a hospital run by doctors and no nurses!?"

Well it got quiet for a minute.

and then EVERYONE busted out laughing.like yeah right, like that could ever happen! It was so funny!:lol2:
