Ugh.

I am sitting on call.

I HATE call.

I can't sleep on call.

If the unit gets one more admit they will call me in...

Why oh why??

Did I mention that I HATE call??

I always refuse to be on call. I'd rather just go in and work.

I take call one full week per month. It's a bit different though, I get called for questions/pt issues or have to go in for implants.

Most weeks I don't mind it, but sometimes I have shall we say "needy" staff working who just about call me to ask if they should scratch their nose when it's itchy.

I called and sniffed around. I guess they had 4, and are now down to 3 thanks to someone goin AMA. Two admits til showtime.... I s'pose I will take my scrubs off. :) Ivanna

I hated called when I took it. I never could get into a deep sleep. I hate being tied to the beeper. And the on call pay was pathetic. Hope you have a quiet night.

Seriously, how on EARTH are hospitals allowed to get away with this crap? Wait around for work at an hourly rate that won't get you a well drink at a decent bar?

Government wants to do bail-outs? Bail out the nurses who have to wait by their phones for less than half of minimum wage----or in my case for free since they have me on salary!!!

We can ask for the shift off, and they will call us (once in awhile). But they don't actually give you off for sure until 30 minutes after the start of the shift. Up to then you have to wait by the phone, with no pay. About half the time you're called in anyway due to late call-ins, etc. Then you have to drive in, starting the shift late and almost certainly pulled. Is it worth it?
