Help,

I am a 40 year old that wants to go to nursing school I want to be a RN more

than anything so I started on my pre-req's I have got my A&P 1 over . I am taking my

A&P 2 this fall and some other coures but someone told me I had to have a high ACT

before I can get into the program and also suggested the LPN first then go for my RN.,

my ACT is not very high I am taking it over--I worked as a Pharmacy Tech (certified)

for 10 years now I am a CNA. (wanted a change) so as anyone got any ideals

Well, I was 30 when I finished and there were folks as old as 64 in MY class! You will be a spring chicken!

Check carefully to see if you can find a school that has a progressive program. That way after 1 year you can take the LPN boards, and keep in school for another year and take the RN boards. It would be a shame to have to repeat courses so try to find a school that will do that. Good luck!!

I don't think age matters at all. 40 is still young. Usually the nursing schools require ACT tests for students right out of high school without previous college. If you are worried about it keep taking your pre-requisite courses then apply after the first year ( if you are doing a 4 year BSN). If a 2 year ADN some are more picky due to high application rates and there are a higher rate of students without previous college in the 2 yr rn programs. In the BSN many apply after completing their first 2 years. sorry to ramble.

I wouldn't do the RN first because for the school I went to if you were an LPN they would only give you credit for 1 class (nursing fundamentals). Would not be feasible. By working as a Pharm tech I wouldn't think it would be hard to get in with that background.

It depends! I was a LVN when I decided to go back for my RN I went to a Jr. college that accepted my one year in LVN school so I ended up only taking the last year of RN which makes sense. I say go for what you want. I don't anyone is ever too old to get an education. As long as you got your faculities go for it. Good luck

Wow A&P 1&2!!! You are really doing GREAT! Keep it up!

You say you want to be an RN more than anything else so I would also say GO FOR IT!

I am not sure that I would do the LPN program first unless you can go right into the RN program afterwards... A word of caution, if you do decide to go for LPN first, just make sure you stay in school to get your RN... sometimes we loose our momentum...

I went to an LPN tech school and none of the stuff I did counts in college so I'd be starting from square 1.

If you have any questions then get yourself to a guidance counselor or even better someone in the nursing program (administratively) who can give you accurate information regarding if you should take your ACT over and if you should consider transition from LPN to RN.

The bottom line... Everyone will give you advice but you need to speak to someone who really knows...

Hi,

I originally thought about doing the LPN but I got more info on both RN and LPN and figured out that the BSN-RN was better for me (BSN only because I had so may other classes/credits)... So as another poster stated go to someone who has the knowledge and then make your decision... And everyone that I had talked told me to take the LPN, needless to say I would've made a big boo boo 'cause the LPN takes 16 months and the BSN will only take me 2 years and half to finish... I'm only missing Chem, micro...

And none of my LPN credits would have transfered to a 4 year college in my surroundings...

If you do decide to take the LPN make sure your credits transfer to the college (2 - 4 years) of your choice or else you will have to start all over again...

I am finishing my pre requisites now and will be starting the LPN program in August. This is my 3 semester, so it will be 2 years by the time I get my liscense. The best thing is to go to a college close by and talk to someone
