Green stool

Does anyone know what would cause a stool to be green and 'fuzzy' looking, kind of like algae? The patient hasn't started any new meds, has no s/s of any GI disorder, not taking iron supplements. She said it just started and I had no answers as to why this would be.

Any ideas?

As other have noted, lots of different food colorings can do this, along with strongly-colored foods like pomegranates or black raspberries. The weirdest stool color I've ever seen came after I let my son eat some of those Robin Egg candy-coated malted milk balls last spring. His poo looked like a mixture of green and blue play-doh. It was fascinating in a disgusting sort of way. If your patient hasn't had one item that would yield that color, maybe she's had a mixture of strongly-colored foods and liquids that could mix and result in green poop.

A friend of mine (:D) had this happen when she drank soy milk. It wasn't fuzzy, but was green through and through. PCP had it tested and nothing was ever found. Figured out it was soy milk with some old school experimentation.

food, food additives,

omg i drank a mondo juice that was purple and my booboo was green so true...
