Good Experience - Just Want to Share

Nurses General Nursing

If I didn't already want to be a nurse, I probably would now. I had some minor surgery yesterday, and can't say enough good about the nurses who took care of me. As soon as I got to my room, the CNA had me tucked into my bed covered with nice warm blankets and offered my husband something to drink. The nurse who cared for me before the surgery was friendly and comforting. As we were chatting, I mentioned I was entering nursing school this fall (same one she went to). She couldn't have been more excited for me - a nice change from the normal response I've gotten when I state I'm going to nursing school (which is "Why would you want to do that?") Anyway, the nurse in the PACU was great, giving me a shot the second I mentioned I was in any pain, heaping on the warm blankets to stop the chattering. Back at my room, it was the same royal treatment. In addition to my OR nurse and CRNA (who I admit, I don't remember) I had three different nurses and a CNA taking care of me - each as wonderful as the last. Granted, I am probably an "easy" patient - I don't ask for much or bring a cast of thousands with me. But, I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and wanted to share a positive story from a patient's point of view.

first, i hope that you are feeling well. second, i totally understand where you are coming from. i was really on the fence about nursing, but i've taken a job as a unit secretary on a very busy med/surg floor. the reason i accepted the position was that one of the nurses that i spoke with during my interview, virtually lit up when i asked how she enjoyed working there. the nurses and patient care assistants (95% of which are going to school for nursing) are totally into their jobs. they are pleasant even to the most cantankerous (sp?) patients.

also, i've been able to see the working conditions, and i'm definitely pursuing nursing.

btw, where in wyoming do you live? i lived in sheridan for a brief period working at sheridan mem. hospital.

I recently had an experience quite similar. I had minor surgery the end of June. Each nurse I encountered was wonderful. I am going into my second semester of nursing school in September. They all were very supportive, of my schooling as well as me being a patient. Each one asked if I would be working at that hospital too. (recriuiting every chance they had from my preop testing to going home from the ambulatory care unit.) All in all it was a great experience. (even though it was surgery)

Thanks too, I needed the reminder to write the nice letter!! I will do that today!

Hope you are feeling well!
