Good books to read! Got any?

Nurses General Nursing

Hey everyone. I know that there is a thread floating on this site about this but I can't seem to find it. I am taking a 1 month break before I start nursing school and I wanted to read a couple of books somehow related to the nursing field. Do any of you have any personal suggestions? I heard the "Stiff" is pretty good so im thinking about picking that up. Thanks for the suggestions in advance:)

"Stiff" is an excellent book so I highly recommend. "Why do men have nipples" is also a good one. Very informative. It answers all those strange questions you may get as a nurse.

Where Have All the Nurses Gone by Faye Slaterry. A fast read and a must particularly for people who are not nurses but want to understand problems we all face daily.

I've always been a big fan of Echo Heron's non-fiction work, "Intensive Care: The Story of a Nurse" as well as "Intensive Care: The Story of a Nurse Continues." She also wrote "Tending Lives", anecdotal stories of several nurses. It's a great read.

go to amazon.com and do a search for the following titles:

How to Survive and Maybe Even Love Nursing School

The Best of Nursing Made Incredibly Easy

Test Taking Strategies (for nurses)

Fundamentals of Success

How to Use Your Head and Land on Your Feet

most of these were recommended during my first semester and the books that I found the MOST helpful

THe second book is actually called "Condition Critical" not "intensive care"-that's the first one only.

I love those books!

I'm in the middle of reading "nursing against the odds" but thats a 400+page book, not exactly a quick read.

Ahh.. thank you HappyNurse. I was a little distracted when I was posting so that's how I messed up the title. Some of her books are a little hard to find, but if you do, they are definitely worth it.

I forgot to add that although I have not read her fiction series, I hear that they aren't as good as her non-fiction work. Judging from the excerpts I have read, I can see how that would be the case.

I also agree with the Kelli S. Dunham books, "How to Survive and Even Love Nursing School" as well as "How to Survive and Love your Life as a Nurse" (I think I got that title right... you can always find out on amazon). Those are really great books, I LOVE her sense of humor.
