Ok, been at my present gig for over 20 years-have won many awards , etc. - Yes, at a Super Platinum Five Star ( I know I'm forgetting something- Oh , yeah Joint Commission Approved ) Magnet Status Luxury Hospital ( we wash cars too ). Now for my point , do you think you could get hired again at your present job-if you went through the interview process again ? That being said , the HR interview now is nothing short of water boarding and polygraph compared to when I went through.

To answer my own question , I don't think I would have a chance. Not now with all the hoops to jump through . Last time I checked , there is a certain "Look " that seems to be prevalent also.

Yes, because I just got hired about a week and a half ago. :saint:

Yes, because they're hemorrhaging nurses right now (I'm one of them, leaving soon) and can't safely cover the existing shifts they have.

Most likely. Hey, I'll do ALL the car washes, provided they pay me the same as I'm making now!

^^^ Same....

nope. I am an ADN hired at a time when the hospitals were starting to put out full-page ads and sign-on bonuses. I was almost given the choice of what ICU I wanted to work in.

Nowadays, degrees and certifications matter more than it did all those years ago. I suppose I will eventually need to get a BSN, but right now I can stay were I am with the ADN degree.

One new nurse said recently that hundreds of people applied for the 2 open spots in my ICU.

HR and nurse recruiting used to be a place where you could pick up a paper application and make a good impression. If I wanted a job, I would call the office and tell the person on the phone to "put my application on the top of the pile". This elicited a laugh, an interview and then a job, twice.

That avenue is gone too.

I notice that there appears to be a similarity amongst many of the new hires I see. A manageable compliancy taking precedence over out of the box imaginative thinkers. Orientation has become indoctrination, this also seems to extend to lower level managers and directors, a plug and play mentality versus true leadership.

Even as trends go to BSN versus ADN training true professionalism is valued less than being a good cog in the wheels of a machine.

What look?

"Look" isn't always physical, it can mean demeanor and personality type. As I mentioned earlier I see a lot of meek and compliant new hires versus independent flexible thinkers.

Yes...my out of the box thinking and personality and my thoughts on nursing practice helped me get the position.
