I can't find a thread I was following. Do moderators sometimes actually delete them rather than just locking if things get heated?

Yes they remove them if they get particularly vile or nasty.

We have had some trouble with the site too today so if you can tell me what thread it is, I'll be glad to get back with you.

Some get moved to more appropriate forums, but still on AN....maybe a search in the AN Google bar? It's just for AN :)
Just saw your post count- you probably know this :) But will leave it for some who don't

Meh. You can get knowledge at Google Scholar. I come to allnurses for the interaction with people who know what the H I'm talking about in most cases, because they've walked the walk. Wish allnurses had been around when I was new! I thought my doubts and anxieties meant I was a freak and everyone else was supernurse.
Hahaa thanks for the Google scholar website. I will definitely look into it.
Seriously, it's a great resource. If someone gives you a source from an obscure journal you can look it up right away. Some are just abstracts. It would've been almost impossible to do that even 10 years ago. Linda Aiken is an author referred to here all the time, just as one example.

yeah I'm having problems with AN tonight too. I'm trying to search for topics in the "archives" and every search result I click on says "bad response from server". UGH.
Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm pretty sure I even posted and now it doesn't even show in my statistics. It was the one started by the nurse who wanted a baby and her husband wasn't on board. It wasn't nasty, imo, when I left. :)

From what I remembered about that thread the last time I saw it, the OP asked for it to be closed and staff had done so.
Whether the mods moved/deleted it or it went into the great cosmic internet void when the forum was having problems, I couldn't tell you :)
Sometimes, for various reasons posters decide they would rather not have something onthe Internet. We try to be sensitive to these requests
