I am just a student right now but as much as I like my school, I "hate" nursing school because of the hard work and time involved. I see fellow nursing students more than I see my friends, my parents and other loved ones. I see the school library (or a study area) more than I see my own bed, haha.
All I see is the goal of one more year that is keeping me motivated.
I loved it. I loved all the science stuff. I was fascinated with A and P. I thought I hated any kind of math but I loved getting into the algebra stuff . I have to say I sucked all of the knowledge out of it that I could. But it was the hardest time of my life. My husband had brain cancer and was terminal and I knew I had to get thru school before he died or I would never have finished. He died 3 months after I finished. Plus the fact I was very young. I did this over 35 yrs ago.
I am also a nursing student and while yes, there were (and will be many more) times when I was overwhelmed and stressed and to the point of tears, I truly do love nursing school as much as school can be loved. Because I am passionate about what I'm learning and the profession awaiting me at the the other end of my program, I am motivated and driven to endure the 'bad' stuff. While there will be times when you'll see more of your fellow nursing students then your friends and family as someone posted earlier, in many ways I see this as a blessing. Why? because they are the one's in my experience who can truly understand what you are going through and you can support one another during the rough times. If you are committed to nursing and a hard worker, the positive aspects of your school years will far outweigh the negative ones! Good luck :)
I just passed Nclex so I can reflect back, I certainly did not 'love' nursing school altho I'm a science guy and really like the human anatomy/physiology parts more than anything!! The human body is an amazing 'machine' and you will be blown away at the balanced systems and how it all works together.
Unfortunately so much of nursing gets smothered in social work issues but there's room enough for all of us out there! The time goes by so fast that the good stuff ends fast, the boring stuff seems to drag on (pediatrics) but it's all over in 2 years.
I was just like you I loved everything about school, and when I got my acceptance letter I was on cloud 9. Then I started, and it wasn't exactly how I thought it was going to be. Nursing school for me was the hardest year of my life. I am a married mother of 2, and I honestly felt as though I did not see my kids, and it is so stressful. But, towards the end it got easier because you knew what to expect out of the Instructors, then you just appreciate all the experiences both good & bad. Good luck!
I LOVED nursing school. I just recently graduated and passed my boards. I made friends that I know will be life long and was fortunate to have awesome clinical instructors. It won't always be easy and sometime you will feel like screaming. LOL but in the end it is all worth it. Congrats and Good Luck
I had a ton of crap going on while I was in nursing school... things going on at home that made me so depressed that I was physically sick, missed so much school, got kicked out... I went back in though, repeated some of my schooling and then graduated.
If I didn't have all the crap going on, I think I would have really liked nursing school. I think I really didn't enjoy that year or two of my life though. xD But I'm glad I did it, 'cause I love being a nurse ^-^
Whatever comes your way, don't let it stop you. =)

Call me crazy, but I can't wait to get in. I keep hearing about how much work it is, how awful it is, how time consuming, etc, but I never hear anyone say that they love(d) nursing school. Does (or did) anyone love nursing school? I love school period. I love lecture, I love lab, I love taking notes, studying, tests, quizzes, all of it. I am a big dork!
