Detached Retina

I am really scared for the first time in a very long time. I noticed in my right eye a little blurry spot, like a floater, in the right hand corner. My eye pressures have been borderline, pre-glacoma , so I go every 6 months for a check, but it was way too soon. Still, I thought, something is funky here, I'm going to make an appointment.

Luckily, they took me within a week, and my vision just cleared from drops enough to see. The bottom line is, there has been no change in my pressures. He really did a thorough look at my retinas, and saw something bad.

I may have a partially detached retina. I am freaked out. And after what I just read on-line, I'm really nervous! My daughter is having her tonsils out tomorrow too, just what I needed, more stress.

So, I have to make an urgent visit to a retinal specialist, before a week is up they said. The only treatment is surgery.

Somebody tell me something to calm me down a bit.

I don't remember were I have read this but it just keeps standing out to me.

I am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day. Commit your sight unto God and let Him do a miracle for you.

We had a middle-aged woman come in a few weeks ago with a detached retina. We patched her and sent her to a nearby eye center. She sees now as well as she did before.

Hang in there. I know it sounds horrid, and it can't be worse timing for you. But there's hope for you, dear.

And if you still need to cry, come on over. There are hundreds of shoulders, mine included, avaialable to you.

That is a scary thing. You did exactly what needed doing. You have confidence in your doctors right? If you need a shoulder or a lot of shoulders you have them. You're in my prayers. I hope your little one will do wonderfully with her T&A. Lots of ice cream OK?

Thanks guys. I do feel better now. The effects of the eye drops great;ly eggagerated the whole effect, and I am back to where I was before.

I do love my eye doctor. IN fact, I had to see a diff guy the last few times, due to insurance change, but we have a new one from hubby's co now, so I was able to return to my favorite eye doc. He has no personality whatsoever, but he is very thorough, and doesn't mince words.

I have never even heard of these retinal docs, but if he thinks they are the best for me, I do trust him on that.

Thanks for your kind words folks.

P_RN, my little one is 15 now! But has missed so much school due to the throat issues (or, maybe it has much to do with her hypochondriac issues, as I posted about before ;) ) but they are using the plasma field laser, which is associated with much less pain now. I can't believe she hates ice cream, but she does, so we had a special shopping spree for her, and she decided on carnation instant breakfasts, yogurt smoothies, puddings, and lots of jello.

I also picked up 2 boxes of popsicles, which she insisted she wont try, but I am thinking she will change her mind about that.

Thanks for the offer of shoulders.

So sorry hoolahan! Very scary, but it sounds like you are in good hands. Glad you caught this thing early. You will be in my prayers tonight.

Hoolio my little one is 34 and if he were to have his tonsils out he'd be my baby for as long as I could hang on to him.

I know exactly how you are feeling having experienced several floaters in my eye 2 mos ago. I also experienced flashes of bright light in my eye while driving at night. I also have high pressure. Had it for a week before seeing my optomitrist. He stated it wasn't detached, but felt it might be in the process of becoming so and I would have to live with the floaters. Well, another week goes by and everything is back to normal; go figure. But I remember that sinking feeling well. Good luck to you.
