Dad has CA again

For the 3rd time, non-hodgkins, in 7 years. All I have done this p.m is eat chocolate! I usually am not an emotional eater so this is freaking me out. I don't know what else to do. Everything seems to be crashing in. My son is fighting an autoimmune disease at 15, and my dad in the hosp with pneumonia, chylothorax, and lymphoma just dx'd again. Is there a silver lining somewhere?

Darl'en, you are NOT whining! Don't you DARE say that!

My Dad died 6 months ago of colon cancer BUT!!!! His was caught very late (misdiagnosis in his case) and there simply was no hope. You are thrilled when the tests come back good and you swear he has it licked and then you find out he doesn't and there is this huge let down.

I may get creamed for saying this but I'm gonna anyway! There is this thing between fathers and daughters, it's likely the same thing as between a mother and son. It's just a different relationship. It isn't better or worse than a daughter/mom, it's just different.

A girl just needs her Dad and the mere thought of losing him is quite difficult to fathom.

I am so sorry sharann. I can't imagine what you are going through. If you don't mind me asking, what autoimmune disease does your son have? I also have an autoimmune disease and it can be very scary. You never know what will happen day to day.

I can't tell you it there's a silver lining somewhere, but I pray there is for you. Sometimes it feels like the world has something against you. Have courage that this too will pass. Take it one day at a time and don't think about tomorrow. Do you have a support group of friends, coworkers, etc. that can keep your spirits up? I know that all of us here at allnurses will certainly try, but sometimes you need a hug. Although I can't reach through the computer and give you one, I hope this one will do

Hi Bethin,

I don't know exactly which AI disease he has, which is the problem! It may be a form of RA but not as crippling. He is being worked up (and down). He has fatigue and joint and muscle pains daily. The pains are very weird as they are nonsymetrical, one body part at a time usually. He hurts too much to take phys ed anymore. Anyhow, I have Crohns myself, so i know how sneaky these auto immune things are. What is yours?

My dad is a survivor, but he is getting older and more tired.

Honey, you sure are not whining. Life is beating ya down right now, and being able to come here and just talk about it, venting, crying - whatever, is the most natural thing in the world. We may be cyber-friends but that does not mean we don't care. {{{{{{{Sharann}}}}}}}

I cannot imagine what you are going through, but I pray that you and your family have the strength to weather these storms. Wish there was more I could do than say 'I'm so sorry'.

That is weird that his pains aren't symetrical. I hope they find out what's wrong with him soon. Even if he does have RA there's alot of treatments out there.

I have Crohn's also BUT that's not all--I have ulcerative colitis too.
