Cost of Commute

So, a little off topic here, but I was wondering how much you all typically spend a month in gas $$ going to and from work. (I was just balancing my accounts and about cried when I saw how much money went to just getting to work :sniff:). Granted, I've got a bit of a commute and my car isn't the greatest when it comes to fuel economy... just wondering how it was for the rest of you!

These days, since my schedule compliments my wife's, I often use her "Charlie Card" (transit pass for you non-Bostonians)... So my commute is free then. We have 2 cars and fill their tanks about once a month... About $30 for the larger car & $25 for the smaller.. But that gas includes all of our errands and other stuff so the amount that goes toward commuting is probably less than 1/2 that total... So maybe $20/month or so. :)

Wow I envy you for that. I live in a rural area, so everything is spread far apart. I have to fill up (60) once a week if I take my son to day care everyday. and When I start working I will be spending about 100 I figured per 3 shifts just on gas to and from the hospital (if I get that job). It sounds like a lot compared to the city, but I suppose its normal when its a half an hour just to the grocery store :/

I drive 32 miles round trip-5 days per week.

I have no idea how much my commute is costing me-now I need to check!

I can definitely relate. I live out in the sticks as well. I have a 3/4 ton four door pickup with the biggest engine available and a fifth wheel hitch in the bed. I also have a full size SUV, biggest engine, and a power wheelchair carrier hanging off the back end. Either way I MIGHT get 10 -12 mpg with a good tailwind. Depending on the current gas price, I spend between 25 and 40 dollars each round trip to work.

I live 5 miles from work, and my car gets about 25 miles to the gallon. I fill my tank about once every 2 months. I pay $20-25 for a fill-up, with my supermarket frequent shopper discount, so about $50 a month.

I drive a lot, so I have to fill up once a week to week-and-a-half. So I guess I spend a little over $100 a month on gas. I'm not sure how much of that I spend going to work. I'm OCD but I've never realy cared about computing that figure! :lol2:

my commute is about 17 miles (and 37-49 stoplights, depending upon which route i take) and takes 40-60 minutes depending upon traffic. my prius gets about 45 mpg without traffic and 75 mpg with . . . i'm more aggravated about the time and the traffic than the gas.

I'm jealous of everyone. I spend around $120 a week. My commute is 70 miles. I drive 90 minutes one way to work. Thats not including the $3.30 roundtrip tolls four times a week. I live in a area where everythings a drive. Tried to find something closer but would have to take a huge paycut. After 7 years of long commute and 3 cars later, guess i actually would come out on top with the expenses. Yea, i work nightshifts. Sometimes its alittle difficult driving home in the morning. Oops i'm ramblin.

I usually fill up the tank every payday (every two weeks) and most of the time the tank is not even empty. Roundtrip to work is 10 miles, 3 times a week. So, 30 miles a week, 120 miles a month roughly calculcates to twelve dollars a month (using my cumulative cost per mile on my car wuich is 0.1 cents- I keep a spreadsheet of every fill-up). Not too bad, but I like to live 15 minutes away from work. A lot of my co-workers live 30 min to an hour away. I don't know how they do it - 12 hour shifts and an hour drive each way. Ay!

i pay around 100ish/month for gas. My job is 24 miles away. I drive from Miami up the FL turnpike to Ft lauderdale. No traffic whatsoever and always been smooth unlike I95 which easily clogs during rush hour. Its not bad because my engine gets highway mileage and i get to use my brakes longer
