How do you tell a client of seven years you want to move on? Seven years ago i did a favor for my agency to work a nightshift case a hour an half from my home. It was to be temporary. Here I am seven years later still working. My little client is now seven and doesnt really know anyone else. I ifeel guilty wanting to move on because the family is really great and appreciative. As you all know that is rare in private duty. I'm getting older and tired of the long commute and being up all night. I have asked my company for daylight but they always give it to new hires. I think they dont want to deal with getting someone else to cover my shift because nights are hard to cover. I have a interview coming up at a doctors office. I know ill be taking a pay cut. To work days and have weekends and holidays off seem like a dream. I hate letting people down. I really need to move on burnout is setting in. So the question remains. How do I say goodbye?

What a coincidence a coworker and i were just venting about the same things. Crazy families, the super perfect nurse, parents thinking maid is in your title, days off are not allowed because they are entitled to a nurse and no one can cover for you because they are overworked, and that would mean mom and dad would have to take care of their own child. The list goes on and on. So i know where your coming from we all get frustrated.

I'm jealous of everyone. I spend around $120 a week. My commute is 70 miles. I drive 90 minutes one way to work. Thats not including the $3.30 roundtrip tolls four times a week. I live in a area where everythings a drive. Tried to find something closer but would have to take a huge paycut. After 7 years of long commute and 3 cars later, guess i actually would come out on top with the expenses. Yea, i work nightshifts. Sometimes its alittle difficult driving home in the morning. Oops i'm ramblin.

I live in Pennsylvania on the border of Maryland and West Virginia. We always get lots of snow. Well I was to be at work this morning at 7am. Needless to say we have 30 inches of snow. My 4 wheel drive truck was buried and would not push the snow. Had to call off at the last minute. I had all the intentions of going to work. But when you live rural and work is 30 mile away it can't be helped. My husband is still trying to plow the driveway at 4pm. I work private duty peds. The mom was not happy that I wasnt coming as she needed to go to work. She to is a nurse. I felt guilty but their are nurses that live alot closer to her than me. It didnt help that she didnt have a night nurse last night, as she called off also. I'm scheduled to work in the morning. I have to make sure i get there. Thats the only thing I hate about nursing. If u work at walmart or the mall your not hurting anyone by calling off!

I would prefer Lowes over Walmart. No nightshift.LOL

Take the job. You can't predict the future. Maybe a miracle will happen and your mother will be spared of the dreaded cancer. Worry about today and be happy. I've learned the hard way to not let a good opportuntie past you by. You'll never know when they will come around again!
