I had a patient with C. diff, bottom so sore from going thousands of times, tells night shift his butt hurts. The nurse assumes he must be constipated and gives him milk of mag, even though there are four BM's of diarrhea marked on his chart from the previous day. I come into work to a holy sh!t storm. And nurse passes in report that we need to get something ordered for his sore butt (mycolog cream laying at bedside to be used q shift, signed off by same nurse). I am certainly not saying I don't make mistakes, because I know I do, but come on! Poor pt. was in pain and nursing made it 10x worse! Just had to vent.....

Some people amaze me:rolleyes: .
Once where I was working as a traveler, there was a nurse who pushed IV Pepcid through an epidural, even though the epidural had a BIG pink sticker around it that said EPIDURAL . Sometimes, I wonder if these jokers can even read.

This reminds me of the news report from the other day where NA's had obtained 'fake' licenses.....makes one wonder if some of our 'fellow' nurses didn't 'pay' for thieir licenses as well???????
Where is their sense of 'USING YOUR HEAD'?????? Come on here.....a majority part of nursing is 'plain ole' horse sense'....as my daddy would say.
I hope you had a talk with this 'professional' nurse and asked here for the rational of her actions???????

Dang, that sounds like a very shitty thing for them to do.

Ummmm..does no one look at the chart or get report anymore? We had an agency nurse once give 10 units of insulin to the wrong patient. Right room...wrong bed. All she had to do was check the ID band. I feel sorry for that poor lady's behind.

That nurse should be made to kiss it and make it better...
That's a good idea. Or someone should shove her face in the poo like a dog and say, " look what you did"!

Hey now, I am a agency nurse and a damm good one. I have followed many full time RN's that do stupid things also. As far as that poor patient is concerned if the diarrhea is so severe how about a rectal foley that way his bottom will stay clean and have time to heal.
Ummm...hello? I didn't say agency nurses were bad. This nurse just happened to BE an agency nurse. Don't be so defensive!

Many a 'damn good nurse' is still on the payroll...only no energy/ambition/desire to toe the line anymore....still knows what to say in report in a way that insinuates good assessment skills, but little desire to 'clean up' or 'deal with the doc' anymore and if you pass it on, you didn't offically 'miss' anything...only ran out of time. Oh yes, it has been known to happen.
