I work in a family practice clinic and about a week and a bit ago I was chatting up a storm with a runny nosed (what I affectionately call a "glazed jelly donut nose"), precocious and unbelievably cute little two year old when he suddenly coughed. A fine spray hit my face, curled around behind my ears and I thought "oh-oh".

Now I'm sick.

Same symptoms he had too....sore throat, cough and runny nose. (although I'm not glazed...at least not my nose) I woke up and said good morning to my hubby....all that came out was a squeak. Unlike this little guy...I have laryngitis. Hubby is happy, he's never had it this quiet. angry-smiley-027.gif action-smiley-064.gif

Ahhhh...the joys of nursing....our patients cough and we get sick.

I worked Pedi's many years and only got sick once: rotavirus. Believe me, I gained a new appreciation for what those kiddoes go through!

Ditto on the multiple colds and flus over the years. Had a really scary thing happen once - admitted a 20 something male with suspected necrotizing fascitis. Cared for this fellow for 4 hours, until end of shift. Woke up the next day with a raging case of cellulitis of one breast. I was at my doctor so fast and he had me on antibx fast with a huge loading dose.

Well, after 10 years in paediatrics one would think I would be impervious. Guess not, eh?

Anyway, I am now on Zithromax and AM feeling better.

But....

I had that bug about a month ago. NP gave me an Rx for Tussionex...great stuff stopped the cough which helped cure the laryngitis. Put me on Prednisone for the terrible lung inflammation. Got better quickly. But then because of the suppression I got SHINGLES.

Could you get one of those visors with the face shield to wear when there's a little chap with those symptoms?

OMG - last fall when I caught what I *swear* had to have been whooping cough, I pulled my neck coughing. Never felt so decrepit in all my life lol.

Ahhh...bad to worse to worse to worse eh? What I (not so) affectionately call the "spiral of death."

I've been tempted to get one of those shields but I don't know how good it would look for the doctor's office nurse to show up wearing one of those. :rotfl: Hubby keeps telling me to wear a mask. No thank you. I had to wear one during SARS and don't want to anymore. Talk about suffocating.
