    My Name Is Mary Sutter- civil war novel, main character was a midwife, worked as a nurse in the war, wanted to be a doc.

    The Midwife by Gay Courter.

    Home Before Morning: The Story of an Army Nurse in Vietnam by Lynda Van Devanter.

    I loved both of these books..

    There is a trilogy that I've read at least 4 times. It's by Tilda Shalof. The first is called "A nurses story", the second is "The making of a nurse", the third is "lives in the balance"
    It's a very real series. With real experiences, and true feelings. Totally, and completely worth it. Amazing.

    Tilda also wrote a book called "Opening My Heart" . It's an account of her own experiences as a patient while undergoing heart surgery.She also wrote one called "Camp Nurse".
    All of the stories are drawn from her own experiences as a nurse.

    A lot of the Ann Perry novels have a character who is a nurse in Victorian London. Great series. She actually writes several series, all set in the same time period-- I think the ones you want would be the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series, in which her husband is a police detective. Lots of historical accuracy, social commentary, great mysteries. (Another is the William Monk series.)

    Thanks so much! i had heard about them, and I'm on the hunt for those two books! I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm finally on summer break from classes, it's so nice to read a book that isn't a textbook. Can't wait to get my hands on them, the others were inspiring to say the least!

    Oh, I love anything by Echo Heron as well. She has several that are based on her life as a nurse. Then theres several fiction books but they are out of print, so you have to find them used. My favorite author, hands down.
