...an hour seems a little low for an RN with 2 years of experience, doesn't it?

I was a Peds RN for 2 years, it didn't work out and now I'm starting a new position in ortho neuro adults. Making less than before! Doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't $22.78 sound too low for an experienced RN in South Florida? This offer is at an HCA facility.

I was also offered a positon at a Level 1 trauma hospital in Peds at $24.90 an hour which sounds reasonable to me. But the problem there is that it is Monday thru Friday!

I don't know I just feel like I'm being jipped at $22.78??? Any thoughts?

It isn't $17 or $18 an hour, like RNs are offered in some areas or with some employers. But I certainly would look for the best pay available in your area.

Whoa, $18 an hour? Hmmm I wonder what cost of living would be in that area. Here in South Fl cost of living is sky high.

Yes that's LOW. I'm a NEW GRAD LPN making 22.50 an hr and 33.75 when doing overtime. I live in MD so I guess it depends on the area and cost of living.

Cost of living is sky high in my particular area (state of CA). COL is not considered when employers lower their wages across the board or use reimbursement rates as an excuse for low wages as is done by home health agencies.

Oh yes, my mother whom is a New RN with LPN experience makes 26.00 in working in medsurg and close to 40.00 working in LTC. Even when I was a CNA I made up to 16 an hour.

Caliotter, does it make sense to question the rate? I'm thinking of calling the recruiter to let her know about the other offer. What do you think?

I would question the rate. They might raise it. Then again, they might say take it or leave it. Time for your negotiation skills to come into play.

I agree it is very low. I am a new LPN i make 23.56 plus shift differential. I am not too specific with what I ask for in a salary but I would expect them . if i were an RN for my pay to be in the low 30s.. at least.

I am working at a LTC about 3 miles from Boston. The commute is tough, and gas will cost me approx. 1 hour of pay. At this facility RNs start at 22.14 hour. I didn't fight it because jobs (esp for new grads like me) are REALLY hard to come by up here.

Most hospitals base pay on years in nursing: 1-5, 6-10, etc. As other posters have stated it also depends on location. some cities (states) pay better because of the cost of living but a lot don't take that into consideration. If you are concerned, ask. I don't think it will affect your current job offer it you phrase it professionally and maturely and please don't use the word "fair"....Fair is an argument little kids use!
