Valencia College Spring 2015

U.S.A. Florida

I just found out that I have been accepted into Valencia's Spring 2015 Nursing program!!! I heard from someone that it is possible to start a semester or two before your scheduled start date.....is that true? Also, can someone please tell me how much the uniforms (shirts) and other expenses are prior to the start of the program? I know you have to wear khaki pants...what about the sneakers? Is it all white or can it have some color added to it? What is the usual schedule for Nursing 1 and 2? Thank for any response you can provide! I can't wait to start!

Did you use financial aid for them?

No, I paid out of pocket for most compliance requirements. Since my FA is a loan, I only plan to use it for big expenses like tuition and books!

Lol @boragirl I know right?! Haha... I will find you!

I paid for my uniform out of pocket. I still haven't heard anything from financial aid since I had to appeal since I already have my A.A and over 150% . so still waiting and didn't want to take the chance for last min stuff. So fingers crossed cause if my fin aid isn't approved Idk what I'm gonna do. So let's see...

Did you complete a SAP appeal? Our situation is similar....I had to appeal because I already have a Bachelor's degree. I recieved my FA although its a loan!

Yea I did the appeal... Wrote up what I needed to explain...and got signature from nursing dept. Last time I appealed it only took a few days...although I know its supposed to take longer but still...u know I qualify I'm just wondering if they will approve me or not this time around...ugh so stressful!!

You'll get it! I guess FA is very busy lately since the deadline is coming up soon.

I had to appeal also for financial aid for having too many hours. They said I would get an answer fast because they're not very busy right now. They said I would get my answer through atlas email, which I have not gotten yet, but on my atlas it changed my status changed from "graduated" to "apeal plan D" which I have no idea what that means, and I can't find any information on it. It still says I have no awards, so hopefully when they send the email for the approval it will explain everything.

I got my uniform right after orientation because they said they run out and it takes a while to get new items in. I was $132 for clinical uniform and shoes, but it lasts us the whole program at least.

If the status has changed, I would think that means you have been approved. The next step would be for how much. That might be what you are really waiting on at this point.

This is what they send to me via email. I hope this helps.

The Financial Aid Services Appeals Committee has approved your appeal of the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements and reinstated your financial aid eligibility under the terms of Academic Plan_D. The terms of Academic Plan_D require you to meet the following criteria within the stated time frame:

  1. While you are on PLAN_D you must successfully complete 100% of all attempted credits in each semester until you are determined to be making satisfactory academic progress or you graduate.

    1. If you withdraw from a course, receive an "I" (Incomplete) or an "F" grade in any of your attempted credits you will not meet the 100% completion requirement.
    2. [*]While you are on PLAN_D your Valencia GPA each semester must be at least a 2.0 or better.

[*]Your attempted credits will include all classes you register for in each semester, whether or not financial aid funds pay for them.

[*]Under PLAN_D you will be limited to a certain number of credits at the end of which you should be ready to graduate.

[*]You will not be allowed to change your current degree program.

[*]The committee may also provide you with a written contract stating additional conditions required to maintain your financial aid eligibility.

Your progress will be monitored at the end of each semester. If you meet all of the above stated criteria, 1 through 6, you will continue to receive financial aid under the terms of PLAN_D.

However, if you fail to meet any one of the above stated criteria, 1 through 6, your financial aid status will return to Suspended - No Appeal. There are no subsequent appeals allowed if you do not meet the terms of an Academic Plan_D.

I called Valencia to inquire about this email and they said I should wait until the first week of December and see what they will offer. They told me that in the mean time I can apply to scholarships. I am just waiting to see what will they offer me. So I was approved under pland D, but now I am waiting for a response from the committee.

Thank you so much! I am hoping they offer a pell grant and not just loans. According to my FASFA I am eligible for a grant, but I am not sure if we get them under the appeals. I guess we will see in a couple of weeks.

Hopefully they will approve us for pell grant. :woot: If you want go ahead and check out these sites. They're for scholarships; Financial aid office sent me the sites.

Yes, you can get grants with a plan D. If it said you qualified, then you most likely will receive it. Just remember, the grants amount shown will be if you attend full time. Nursing is 3/4 time, so you will not receive the full amount but 3/4th of the amount. This doesn't affect loans.
