UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

hi!

thanks for making this post! i just read the summer 2018 posts and it was so nerve racking! lol

i am now getting my s*** together and finding the courage to finally apply to nursing school.

i have so many questions and whether i even have a chance of getting in. i'd love some feedback from current or past students or anyone that can offer some advice.

Undergrad cum. GPA: 2.96

last 60 credits GPA: 3.38

Pre-req GPA: 3.42 or 3.71 if repeated courses are not counted.

Volunteer at hospital for 6 months currently. more by the time applications open

currently have experience in medical curriculum since i work at a medical school and can get stellar rec. letters from professionals.

Do i have hope to even get wait-listed?

I am in a similar boat because my undergrad GPA is less than stellar (less than 3.0). That was a long time ago and I hadn't found much direction in my life or my studies. Then I got my life together and graduated with a much better GPA for my MA (3.87). Long story long, I am from France (have lived in the US for 12 years and became a US citizen) and graduated over there with French grades, and my GPAs were calculated by an evaluation agency here and I am nervous about how UF will look at my past grades. My prereq GPA is 4.0 so far with nutrition and stats left to take (currently taking these courses). I have been a doula since 2011 and have volunteered at a center for women that provides rape crisis support and adult literacy programs for the past year. My dream is to become a labor and delivery nurse and eventually move on to a Master's to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife.

As to whether we stand a chance, well, I guess we won't find out unless we try!

I am very hopeful about UF because it seems they really look at your journey holistically. It seems the essay questions are important, they give you a chance to highlight your projects and the path that brought you to apply to their program. I think you should be hopeful and confidently convey your motivation and passion. Good luck!

Hi! I'm super anxious and ready for the application to come out already. I'm currently a UF undergrad. My overall GPA is a 3.75, last 60 is around 3.85, prerequisites is a 3.7. I have volunteer hours at Shands. I met with the advisor (Kenneth Wynn, I think) about a week ago to ask a few questions and he was pretty helpful!

Specializes in Neuro ICU.

I'm a current student in UF college of nursing, and I remember about this time last year I was planning and evaluating all I needed to do to get in. From my understanding, our cohort was the first to be holistically selected. The cohort before us who are about to graduate said that they were chosen almost strictly on GPA and maybe past experience. They wrote maybe one or two essays and that was it. We wrote about 10 mini-essays, took a personality test, and sent in letters of recommendation. If they keep this same selection method, my opinion is that you should show high emotional intelligence and genuine caring for people in your essays. Don't make the essays an exercise in self-glorification; of course strut your stuff some, but make caring at the center of concern. I do not think the professors or deans read the essays, but a panel of non-nursing citizens are chosen to read the essays.

Good luck guys! I hope to pop in every so often to see how you guys are progressing, but I cannot promise I will check in much, as I am currently breathing, eating, and living everything nursing.

Thank you so much for your advice, that's super helpful!

Hi all! We are on break right now and was curious to see if any new applicants were posting on this website. I am a current student at the Jacksonville campus and I would be more than happy to offer any advice, etc.

My biggest advice right now is to stay confident. UF takes a holistic approach to the process so play up your backgrounds and experiences. When the essays are available for completion, don't rush completing them... take your time and always try to relate your answers back to the field of nursing.

Good luck everyone! All of us are rooting for you!

Thank you! I am hoping to get into the Jax program. I can't believe applications will open in a couple of weeks!

Hi everyone! I am also preparing to apply for the summer 2019 cohort. I completed my bachelor's degree in public health, and I am now finishing up my master's degree in health sciences with an emphasis in school health. I received a 3.3 in undergrad, and I currently have a 4.0 in my master's program. I am really excited to read they are going to go by a more holistic approach! It sucks being judged just from GPA. I was a first responder on an ambulance for 4 years, a wellness associate at a retirement community in Amelia Island, and I am now a wellness graduate assistant for the university I am attending. I am sure hoping this helps! Looking forward to discussing the application process with you all. We are less than a week away from application day. YAY!
