Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

I am still checking my email everyday like I am going to receive any news!!! LOL I am applying for full time or part time generic, but I hope to get into the full time

Lol I forwarded my MDC email just so I can check more frequently. I applied to all 3 but am hoping for FT generic Homestead more than anything else.

Sorry folks! Didn't mean to take so long to get back to you all...summer semester ain't no joke!

Canelaw, I don't think there's anything wrong with verifying that all of your paperwork is in correctly. I don't know how much room you would have to fix an error if in fact your eligibility is in question, but if it was a simple fix it would definitely be better to patch it up now than when acceptance letters go out. More likely than not, everything's fine!

MJL, ballpark cost is around $1400 give or take in tuition, and $150 in uniform, supplies and shoes. As far as books, I spent about $450 up front buying my books for both the first and second semester. I would recommend buying your med-surge books now because you can use them to do the pathophysiology for your care plans (don't worry about understanding that right now, it'll all be explained). That $450 was for books I bought entirely off of Amazon and other students; I haven't bought anything at the MDC bookstore so far.

Mary, the schedule will change from semester to semester. A lot of it will revolve around when the hospitals can take students for clinicals, and what rooms and professors are available at specific times, etc. Last semester I was lucky to have Friday off, this semester I'm doing something every day of the week. Additionally, each semester I had a class that changed time and day, so my ability to plan ahead was pretty much scrapped. I wish I had something better to share than that, but it will really be a gametime decision!

Any other questions please feel free to throw them up here! Only 5 weeks now guys, enjoy your free time and do things you enjoy!!!

hello, does anyone knows how is the schedule for the accelerated program?

Thanks ZeppHead,

I appreciate it. So total is about $2000 all together, which isn't bad at all considering other schools. I've always tried to get my books through Amazon because of how much cheaper it is compared to the school's bookstore. You don't happen to have a list of the books you need for the first semester do you? I'm sure it would be the same for everyone. I don't want to get ahead of myself but would like to research the costs of the books online and put in a cart to have it ready just in case.

Thanks again and congratulations through your first semester!

All I know is that it is intense lol.

I think I read somewhere that it's pretty much everyday M-F but don't quote me on that.

Did you apply for the Accelerated program?

MJL, lemme see what I can do. I'll PM you!

Hey Zepphead8,

Thanks for your update! Question - In which Nursing track are you currently enrolled?

Thanks!

MJL, lemme see what I can do. I'll PM you!

Thanks Zepphead! I would really appreciate that.

Has any one gotten any new info?? My heart is at my throat all day everyday! I just read on mdc's website that all accepted students have to have the background check, health check, and CPR card in by the 29th of June...I hope they would give us sufficient time for everything. I've read other posts of past students and there's alot that needs to be done. I might just be blabbing but my nerves are all out of wack. Good night all!

That's encouraging! At least, I hope it is....It looks like we can go ahead and do the background screening, so I might start working on that. Back in Nov or Dec, I had to do fingerprints for my risk management license, so I need to see if they'll take that. Doubt it, but would be one less thing I have to pay for. I would think they have to give us enough time to do it. It seems like in past semesters the students have had a couple weeks, which would fit with the 6 week from application deadline timeline :(.

Hi guys!

I just made an appointment the background check on June. I think it would be smart to do it now because once notification emails start going out we may have a hard time with that. Does anyon know a dr. or office for the medical screening? I think we could also set appointments for June and save time, as long as we dont have to pay for it right away.
