LOW pay in South East FL.

U.S.A. Florida

Hey all!

First I wanted to say I love this message board! There are so many people who post good advise, and I have really learned a lot!

I am currently an LPN perusing my RN. I am not currently working as an LPN while I am in school but the pay really sucks here in SE FLA! When I did have a job, the pay was only $16/ hour! Out in CA I was making $25/HR at my first ever LPN job. Now I hear that things are much worse. There are so many of these fly-by-night LPN schools that have popped up saturating the market, so much supply and not enough demand. So companies know they can pay even less. I heard the average LPN (new hire) in SE FLA makes like $12-13 an hour!

RN pay is not so great here either from what I understand. I would probably make less than what I did as an LPN in California. I really do not think that nursing pay at least here is not what is used to be, and nursing jobs are no longer that easy to find. I am considering (strongly) moving back up north where I grew up where as I understand the job market is better, both opportunity and pay wise. I am going to post in a lot more detail about that plan in a different section. Anyway my current professor said in order to find a job when we graduate as an RN, we really need to look to Vero Beach and North.

yes...I was thinking maybe they are not hired as RN even with an RN. Maybe they are CNA? That is just crazy. I know sometimes people cant find jobs so they may take one lower then they are qualified for.

I would rather drive further north (or south) then take that much of a cut.

I know that Parallon was offering $15 for new grads. They were sponsoring the new grad programs at locale hospitals. After you complete the program you got a bonus and the regular new grad pay that the hospital offering.

I know of two new LPN's that started with $20 an hour at a LTC facility and one with $25 an hour home health in West Palm Beach, FL. Well That's what they said the pay was.

What place is that? I have been seeing $15-$18 an hour as LPN in postings recently. WPB is too far I live like an hour South but the pay may be higher there.$18 was skilled highly experienced LPN. I need work!

At the hospital I work at they start RN new grads at $25/hr ( more if you have a BSN) and I live in southeast fla. A student nurse here makes $15/hour after your first semester of clinicals. I dont know what LPNs here make because they have become obsolete. The only ones still working here were grandfathered in...

The hospital in south Florida have no respect for nurse. They want to pay you whatever they feel like. With this said, they will always get mediocre work. Jackson Memorial Hospital surprised me. How on earth one should travel from north Florida to work for them if the pay is so low? The differential is 6 dollars from 11-7 only!!! It makes no sense to me.

Jackson Memorial starts graduates off higher than the Ft.Lauderdale/ Broward area even the West Palm area because they say the cost of living is higher in miami. I never heard of a Registered Nurse getting paid below $21 for them (not CNA or LPN) It also depends on what speciality you are going into, shift and degree.

Possible misunderstanding. I was hired at Jackson memorial hospital April of 2013 as a LPN with 2 years experience. I was offered $17 base pay and $3 shift diff for evenings. I can't imagine an RN getting $15.

Hi everyone! Any updates on the pay in South Florida…specifically Jackson Memorial? I am looking to relocate from DC. i have 8 years of ICU experience and am making way more than what is listed here + a good weekend shift diff.

Thanks!

Florida pay will never be comparable to what others make in another state. Atleast not in the years to come

I imagine that with 8 years of experience, you would be eligible for pretty decent pay.
