VENT: school still ruining my life after graduation

I just wanted to vent about the situation Im in. So I graduated nursing school with a 4.00 and was blessed with an awesome job lined up in the first unit of my choice in the first hospital of my choice, passed the NCLEX accor to Pearson Vue and cannot start work because my school is lagging on the transcripts.

Mind you, I graduated in mid December. Im not sure how long it takes for someone to put my official degree into an envelope and mail it.

Im just feeling a little out of control here because I feel like I was responsible and did everything I could to get my license on time, but my slow school is actually going to make me lose my job and is costing me hundreds of dollars each day because they havent sent out my transcripts so my license number can be issued. (The hospital wont accept interim permits)

The best part is, I call my nursing school to inquire about the progress (in a polite, non-blaming manner) and am met with the typical condescension and rude phone etiquette I have experienced through out nursing school. I cannot wait to be rid from this place. The lady had no idea when the transcripts would be mailed out even though they were officially released last week. I understand that the nursing department may not be solely at fault, but how come it is always my school that infringes upon my inalienable rights ;) and causes me heart ache and sleepless nights?

I tried to solve the problem my self and asked if I could pick up my official transcripts and send it on my own but the office person said they must all be sent at once from the school. This sounds asinine to me.

Throughout this whole process I have notified my employer and volunteered to do online training and preparation beforehand but Im just not sure how long this job will wait when I've heard that more than 3000+ are vying for the position. And if I lose this job, no new grad programs will start until summer and I cannot go that long without work and God only knows if a job will be available for me then.

I've also heard that in California (where I live) there is another 3 week wait after transcripts are released. I was supposed to start my job a week ago. Although Im enjoying the time off and break, Im going crazy over the idea of losing my dream job and not being able to do anything to stop it.

I hated my disorganized nursing school while I was in it and now they are driving me insane even after graduation!

Do you have any words of encouragement or ideas to help? Or how about just join in in bashing my school?

Thanks for reading. I know, I keep trying to remember that. Thanks for the reminder. Its funny how I get so anxious about things I cant control but usually once I say that prayer to God I feel literally lighter as the stress is lifted off of me.

Go pick up the sealed transcript and avoid the wait of mailing.

Go in person, request the transcripts in their sealed envelope, be prepared to pay the required fee, deliberately get the name of the person who takes your request. If they deny your request, inform them that you will have your attorney contact them because you are not going to allow them to cost you a job. Look them straight in the eye when you say all of this. Transcripts are given out in sealed envelopes all the time. There is no reason you can't get them. Now this is an example of God helping someone who helps themself!

the office lady said I couldnt, but Im going to call the BRN directly tomorrow to see if I can do it anyways, even if it means ordering my own transcripts.

yeah, and I payed for the transcripts months ago so they are my property not the nursing departments anyways so I should be able to take them into my possession.

I dont live near Sac, but I was thinking I could easily get a flight there and go visit my mom who does live there after I march straight to the BRN and hand deliver my transcripts.

This is all contingent; however, on what the BRN has to say about receiving the transcripts from me instead of my school.

I'd go talk to the registrar in person, and if need be, I'd raise hell over something like this.

When I finished undergrad in May (non-nursing but for arguments sake im posting anyway) and I was applying to graduate school, my transcripts did not arrive until the first week of July after my degree was conferred on May 20-something. It was quite a wait, and I raised hell, but you have to remember, I (at least in my school) graduated with at least 4,000-5,000 other students and all of which are probably requesting transcripts and at LEAST one of them (I myself requested 4). So I suppose the delay is justifiable.

Good things come to those who wait.

You only just graduated in December. Don't forget that during the holidays schools are pretty much shut down. If you were here in Florida you'd still be waiting on a sit pass to write the NCLEX.

Keep your prospective employer aware of your progress in getting your license.

Harassing your school could lead to purposeful delays by whomever is doing the paperwork.

Double-check that your place of employment will accept hand-delivered sealed transcripts.

Most will...however, exceptions do exist: my workplace would only accept the transcript if it was sent directly from the school--they would not accept a hand-delivered copy even if it was stamped and sealed. They were very upfront about this during the hiring process.

ugh! Ive decided I hate the state of california for creating an automated answering system that doesnt tell you until after 5 minutes of info that they cant answer your call d/t high volume of callers. Im still awaiting news of if I can go and pick up my transcripts myself. thanks for the support.
