So bummed out

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Well, I got my results from the board of nursing today. I did not pass. One part of me is mad and the other is OK. I'm upset b/c I had this great job lined up for september and now I am not going to be able to practice as a nurse in this job or any job. I am working as a home health aide now, which is OK, but I was sort of looking forward to moving on to be a nurse, since I spent 4 years working towards this. I know I can retest in October; I'm thinking about getting a job in a hospital as a patient care tech, if I am allowed to do this, cause I know I will be able to get decent (more) hours and more money than I am now as an aide. If I pass my boards in October I will be licensed as a nurse and can move forward. Thanks for listening.

very disappointing

and hard now

maybe not such a big deal in the long term

go with the part of you which knows you have options and this will work out

good luck

I am so sorry!! October will be here before you know it though. I am just starting nursing school this fall so I can not relate to how you feel, but I sure do hope you do not let this get you down! You have worked way too hard towards your dream.

Good luck on your retest and keep your chin up.......

Chrislynn,

Chin up!!! Not everyone passes on the first go around - don't sweat it. I would HIGHLY recommend taking a hospital job in the mean time while you are waiting to retest. The experience will help you maintain and sort out in your mind all that you have learned in school. And remember  ... ABC ... ABC! Good luck!

Hey, I totally agree with Tink RN! Go to work as a tech and get the experience while you wait to sit again. I too failed the boards the first time and was devastated! Luckily I was already working as an LPN on the floor I wanted to be on. I know it is dissappointing :scrying: but hold your head up and know that everything happens for a reason and you will be there before you know it Girl!! -Shelley

Here, these are 4 U!:balloons:

Good luck in October!:nurse:

Chrislynn,

I agree with Tink RN, you KEEP your chin up! I know a nurse who failed TWICE, and wasn't going to go back and take it the third time! But she had a BF who BELIEVED in her! He talked her into going back, and I totally agreed with him, as she was an awesome tech, and had a totally caring heart! Well. the third time was a charm, and she made it!

You have worked hard to get to this point, and don't stop now! Don't give up, and don't beat yourself up. AT my assignment in AZ, there was a grad who didn't pass either. But the hospital kept her on as a tech, and everyone assisted her in making the most of her experiences there. You can do the same, and the next time the questions will make more sense, as you can see the situations. You hang in there, and YOU WILL SUCCEED!

Chrislynn,

I'm so sorry that you didn't pass. Keep yourself together, don't let this get you down. October will be here before you even realize it. I know someone who failed NCLEX 5 times before they passed. She was not very bright at all, but she desperately desired to be an RN. And you know what? She passed that 6th time after lots of practice and review courses, and she is a wonderful nurse. Not everyone passes the first time, but if you just keep at it, you will pass. Good luck on your retest, and in the meantime, I hope you do get that job in the hospital as a PCT.

Chrislynn2003,

I'm sooo sorry that U "unpassed" the nclex-rn. It's amazing that after these years in nursing school; that it all "boils" down to ONE test. B sad and disappointed 4 awhile; and take time 2 enjoy yourself. I'm sooo glad that U R going 2 take it again. Remember... U already know the info R/T graduating from nursing school. Remember 2 study hard answering those computer Q's w/ rationales. Answer those questions until it makes U sick. Make certain that U do NOT study the day or 2 days B4 the day of NCLEX: enjoy yourself to give your brain the needed rest 2 re-energize your brain. Anyways.... hope this helps and REMEMBER>>>>>U will pass!!! Keep us posted and if U need anything let me know. I'm a new RN (since 7-23-03). Take care and listen 2 all the great advice/comments from the others.

Sorry to hear the disappointing news. I would suggest enrolling in a NCLEX review. it woud be worth the cost, as the money lost not being able to practice nursing wil be much greater in the long run. Have confidence and the faith to believe in yourself and youcan do anything you put your mind to!! Some hospitals will foot the bill for the course if you will agree to work in their employ once you are licensed. Good Luck To You!!!

Thanks for all the great advice everyone. I am enrolled in a Kaplan review course now (online). I will keep you posted as to what happens.
