I've been a nurse for a whole 5 months! I went through this "program" where I could go to the different areas, I choose women's services, to see what I liked. What they forgot to tell me was you still had to interview for a job and there is NO promise that you'll get in the area you choose. They can't even promise you will get in the women's department. I've had one interview that went HORRIBLE! I've heard you have a 2-year commitment to the hospital, BUT I signed no papers, nor do I really recall them telling me that. I don't know what to do. Should I look for a job elsewhere or what?

I guess it is a normal reaction to hate your first year in nursing, but I HATE all the ethical issues I face. I also don't like what I'm doing, I currently plan on going back to school to major in Elem. Education, which was my original major to begin with. However I need to work in order to pay for school. Maybe if I found a better job, I would stay with nursing. ANY ADVICE? Could the hospital take legal action if I quit?

I would certainly inquire about the 2 year commitment. I have only heard of such a thing if the facility paid your way through school to become a nurse; other wise I don't see how that happened. But, other than that, if you can get out to somewhere better, then, start doing so, once you find out about the commitment thingy.

If you signed no papers and they did not pay you any bonuses or pay for your schooling, I doubt that you have any kind of commitment. But go to the HR dept. and find out what your status is.

This is a job, not indentured servitude. If you want to quit, then quit.
