I know that I shouldn't laugh at others but this was a little personal victory of mine that I need to share. This made my day. About 2 years ago I worked in a nursing home as a CNA while I was in school. I didn't tell many people, because I was only in first year and several other NA's were "in nursing school" but really were taking like the pre-req's, and they liked to show out like they were better than everyone and the nurses hated it. I was actually in the program. But anyway one of these previously mentioned NA's (supposedly to graduate Dec. '04) found out I was in school and asked me what semester I was, I said the course number at the time (like NUR120 i think). Well he made this big deal about how I obviously I was not in the program and I was lying. And that when I actually got in the program that I could come talk to him, then I would know the correct semester #. Anyway cut to this morning about 2 years later, I've been practicing as a RN for 8 months now:nurse: , I go in to give report to the next shift. And who comes up all dressed in thier first year student uniform. None other than that same NA who told me that I was lying about being in school. The look in his eye when he realized who I was, erased all the anger I had about that little comment.:roll I know it sounds childish but it goes to show, never burn somebody, especially when you don't know the truth, b/c you never know (esp. in our field) whom you may be working/ reporting to next week. :chair:

Sometimes people need a taste of their own medicine. He tried to make you feel stupid, and now here he is, looking like an idiot. Not because he's a nursing student, but because he acted like he was so much better than you and so far ahead of you in the nursing program. Ha!

This kind of reminds me of a friend of mine from nursing school. She was amazing clinically - worked in a doctor's office and was the best phlebotomist they had - and she just did amazing work at the hospital when we were in school. She also knew the subject matter like the back of her hand, in all of our classes. When it came time to take exams, though, her anxiety would get the best of her, she'd second guess her second guesses, and would fail the exam. She failed two nursing classes, lost a year of schooling, and had to reapply to the nursing program. One of her instructors was on the board and told her she would never make it as a nurse and that she should think about another career path. My friend was BORN to be a nurse! Well, she made it back into the program after getting help for her test anxiety. She aced the rest of nursing school and passed her boards on the first try. Her senior preceptorship was six weeks in the CCU, her dream job, and they hired her before she even graduated - the first new grad they'd hired in YEARS. By the time she moved away four years later, she had become a charge nurse, preceptor, and had even gone to Armenia (her home country) to help set up a CCU at a new hospital and train their entire nursing staff.

You can't let other people bring you down. My friend wishes she could have seen the look on that instructor's face when she heard about the CCU job offer!

Gompers, this is a bit off the subject but I had to write you about your friend who succeeded in nursing school even when others told her she couldn't -good for her! :) I'm glad she stuck through it. And I also happen to be 100 % Armenian, so that is extra cool to hear! :)

How awesome!!! Before I went to nursing school, I was a surgical secretary. One of the other secretaries was this really annoying, huge lazy woman who made derogatory comments every chance she got. She had like 8 court cases goign where she was suing different places (whiplash from someone in a parking lot backing into her car light enough to do no damage to either vehicle, a restaraunt where she slipped in water on the floor in the bathroom that she herself dripped, a previous employer that had a phone receiver that made her neck hurt when she held it between her neck and shoulder to talk when she typed and etc) She constantly talked about how she was going to be rich from settlements, SHE was only working until one of her cases paid off big time. She scoffed at me registering for classes, told me many times I would ever make it as a nurse. Well, I ran into her the other day when she was visiting someone at my facility, and she still works as a secretary and apparently never got the big payoffs she was looking for!!! She gave me this real fake "oh, that's nice" when I told her I was the supervisor here. HAHAHAHAHA! It was very, very sweet.

I LOVE stories like this. Some people need to be bucked off their high horse, and that apparently happens in due time. I love happy endings! Someone told me the other day, "Be careful of whose toes you step on today, they may belong to the person whose fanny you have to kiss tomorrow."

This reminds me of my sister in law, who by the way, has NO IDEA about ANYTHING medical. It was my last year in school, and she asked me where I was going to "get a job" after I graduated. I told her I wanted to do critical care, and ER, hadnt decided yet. Well, she replied with.... "I dont know who you think you are, wanting to do that right out of school, you need to start at the bottom, and work your way up after a few years, thats what my friend did, she was a cna for years, then worked on a regular floor, and she just recently went to a floor where they take care of peoples hearts-" Then she added, "I think its kind of childish of you to think you can get your way when you just start out like that..." At that point , I really didnt know how to respond to such bull and ignorance, but told her that since her friend went to nsg school, things have changed a little for new grads, etc, and everyone takes different paths and it is very possible and not unreasonable to think that a new grad would work in those areas......Now , we dont talk much to begin with, and that kind of comment is pretty typical of her anyway, she's a real winner... lol So flash forward to a year later... we havent seen eachother since that day.... shes in the ER (with a friend who had a minor injury)where I started in after graduating, and I am on my way to the helipad to rec'v a trauma...... told her quickly , running ,I cant talk now, we have a real bad trauma coming in from air transport....priceless!!!! Geez, I cant stand that woman.

:lol_hitti Some people are born to rain on others' sunny days, I guess. Who is she to tell you, "who do you think you are??" I would've busted up laughing at the ignorance. Sounds like jealousy over your hard earned success.

I imagine her "friend" told her that nurses go to school and come out as nurses, and not pions that need to be diapered until their "big enough" to go to nursing school.
