I wish someone told me that to enter this profession you already need experience. You need to be born an experienced nurse if not there is just no place for you in this field.

I am sorry, I know this topic has already been discussed a thousand times on this board but today I am really really down and just need to vent.

I am a new grad so I am unemployable, I feel such a failure. Years of hard work, sacrifices, endless night studying and all for nothing. I understand that having a degree and a license doesn't entitle me to a job, but I would love to have at least one opportunity to show that I too can be a good nurse. But after months and hundreds of applications sent with no luck, I am ready to give up and go back to my old non nursing career.

I am not the only one, there are so many of us new grads of 2009 and 2010 who will never be nurses, despite our passion and love for this job and willingness to learn and work hard. I don't think it's fair but so it's life. I considered moving but right now I am so broke after months of not working that I can't even afford that.

I wish all new grads the best of luck! To all working nurses, I envy you so much (in a good way hehe), because you are doing what I would have loved to do........

Let's not give up Daniela, even if it's way too hard...it breaks my heart reading situation like this. coz we are not given the opportunity for growth. where will we get that experience they needed when they don't hire us? :((

In is often enough there are opportunities, but its just harder to look for them. Remember in the mean time to build your self to be a better candidate this is the time. You got this far so that says a lot of your accomplishments. Now it is time to put your action into practice. How long ago did you graduate and what have you tried besides applying to hospitals?

Try looking into unconventional Nursing Jobs if you are able to.... like medical mission trips and stuff like that. Hope you find an opportunity soon!

Yes I'm in Los Angeles. I have tried applying pretty much everywhere nursing homes, LTC, hospices, SNF, doctors office you name it.....but they all want experienced nurses.

I am also taking all the certifications you can think of: I'm already ACLS certified and I will take PALS, IV and critical care course in the next weeks. I read somewhere that hiring manager don't really care about all these certifications all they want is experience but I'll take them anyway......

I am doing everything I can, but I'm finding out that if you don't know the right people in the right places you're not gonna get a job. I will look for jobs for another month and then even if it breaks my heart I'll have to give up. I have bills to pay and I need to work.

It may not be a job but have you tried volunteering at hospitals? At least if you volunteer you can get some experience.

I'm not sure if this is an avenue you have tried but Los Angeles County hires new grads. If you havent started with the process start NOW because it is lengthy. One of my classmates was hired in L&D. If you want more info regarding this let me know because if you already did this i don't want to post a novel on here ;-)

Also CHOC opened their application March 15, not sure if its still open, but worth checking. CHLA will open theirs (or maybe for pick up like last time, not sure) april 1. You can pm me im not sure if I can see it because i'm a newbie and i can't pm yet!

Stay positive and believe in yourself. If you don't believe in yourself no one else will!

Also as Darkmoonlily replied volunteering is a great way to put yourself out there and network. I spoke to a recruiter at an event and she said that it is soooo hard to get a job right now because there are so many applicants and sometimes your documents get looked over too quickly (if at all :crying2:) However she said if you volunteer and make the people around you see how amazing/great/smart/knowledgeable you are they will vouch for you and say we must have her. SHe said often positions are created for volunteers because they wouold be a great asset to the floor.

i'm not saying however, that EVERY floor will be this way, but I've known of some people who were hired in this manner. I'm not sure if you mentioned you tried being a monitor tech, unit secretary, cna. But she said those are also great ways.

FYI for you and all others interested placentia linda hospital is hiring new grads right now. they are a tenet facility located in placentia. the positions are new grad ones and the app is up until april 16, but the sooner the better. I do not know what this app entails but check it out!

Yes I already put in my application with LA county. I checked the status and it says referred to exam process. I know that it can take up to a year to actually get a job offer with them though......so I'm not really counting on that but at least I'm in the system.

Can you tell me what CHOC and CHLA stand for?
