Hello all:
I am shopping for work and trying to understand nursing schedules. I used to have bankers hours, alas.
What is a weekend off when working evenings or nights? Fri, Sat, and Sun? or just Fri and Sat? or Sat and Sun? Confused .
I am wondering what people are experiencing out there for both 8 (3-11, 11p-7a) and 12 (7p-7a) shifts.
Thanks!

At the two hospitals I've worked at, Fri night shift was considered a weekend shift. However, Fri evening shift was considered a weekday shift.

I work Monday through Friday, from 6am to 2pm, at a local nursing home. I have Saturdays and Sundays off, but willingly choose to work on my days off at another facility for some extra cash.
The shifts at my workplace are 6-2, 2-10, 10-6, and 12 hour weekends from 6am to 6pm, and 6pm to 6am.

Most places that I've ever worked consider Sat-Sun to be the "weekend" for second shift. For third shift, or 12s that run overnight (7p-7a), it varies (in my experience) among hospitals/facilities. Some consider Fri-Sat nights the "weekend," and some consider Sat-Sun to be the weekend.

I work 12s (7p-7a) and our weekend is sat/sun night (sat/sun for days). I have learned to make an effort and when I put in my schedule request, I will work Fri/Sat/Sun on "my" weekend, so then I can request off Fridays on my weekend off. Otherwise I end up sleeping away most of my Saturday off!

Where I work the weekend is sat & sun for the PM shift & fri & sat for the night shift.

We only do 12 hour shifts at my hospital, so the weekend is considered Friday 1900 to Monday 0700. This doesn't match up with the differential pay, but no big. And we never have a problem staffing Sunday nocs .
