Could you new grads that had trouble with job search do me a favor.

Nurses New Nurse

Published

It seems that the number of post by frantic new grads who have not been able to get a job are dropping off. I think maybe the tight job market is easing but I don't know that. Actually I am worried about you and if you are one of the people that posted what a bad time you were having but you are now employed I would like to know that. Not kidding, I have spent sometime worrying. Worrying because I remember a tight job market in the mid 80s when we lost a generation of nurses because they went off and did something else. I certainly don't want that to happen again. So let us know please.

Maybe this isn't what you're looking for, but here's my story. I started applying for jobs in early January/February for this summer. I just graduated and after 6 interviews, deciding that I didn't want to do med/surg but still settling for a specialty that wasn't my first pick (psych over peds), and what felt like a million applications, I was offered a job on Wednesday, the day before graduation from my BSN program. I know my classmates are seeing an increase in interviews and job offer within the past month or so; I think you're onto something. :)
Yes, this is exactly what I want to hear.:yeah:

anyone from the bay area california have any idea where i can get any job. i have three years of experience working as an LVN. I just passed my RN exam. my employer just told me they cannot afford to pay RN money and will put me on call position if they need and RN or short of staff. my name is no longer on their shedule. i don't know what to do but willing to take another LVN position while I continue to look for the RN position. I'm willing to travel up to an hour an half. thanks. any suggestion will be helpful.

Specializes in ICU.

i'm still having trouble :o

I'm still having trouble as well.

I've decided to go back to the corporate world and use nursing as a back up plan until things get better with the economy.

Specializes in New Graduate.

I haven't had any luck in the Chicago area at all :(

I have been looking and applying for new grad jobs since January and I graduated in May 2009. I have had 2 interviews and was denied because they hired someone else who had nurse tech experience and I have another interview tomorrow. It is very frustrating. Most of my classmates that got a job where either an lvn or nurse tech or knew somebody or bugged the heck out of HR.

i just graduated last week and i wish i could post a happier post but sadly, i am jobless. out of 60 students in our class, not one has a job. they said by march of this year, the entire class usually has a job lined up for after graduation but no such luck :( where are all the new grad positions???? i may move to san diego, jacksonville FL, salem OR, or stay in bay area (depending where the bf gets into law school).... but where are the jobs??

I'm sorry to hear that you guys in Ca are having such a hard time. There are quite a few jobs here in KY. Most of my class had a job before they graduated and those that didn't have a job was by choice (either hadn't applied yet or they were continuing their education and not working.)

Things are getting tight around the country because someone forgot to tell all the new grads that even with a nursing shortage a hospital is a business. When most of the country doesn't have health insurance, how are the hospitals going to get reimbursed? This catastrophe was set in motion many, many years ago.

Good luck to y'al and God Bless!

I graduated in Decemeber with a BSN, have sent out nearly 100 resumes, got 1 interview and still don't have a job. Many of the New Grad programs around here have been cancelled and none of the hospitals in the SF bay area are hiring new grads. In our cohort of 40 only 12 have found jobs and most of those left to area to work. There are hiring freezes everywhere (County, State hospital, even Kaiser). The job market is still really tough in California and it seems to be getting worse here, not better.

My story is I am an internal employee, but a lot of places in Chicago are not even considering someone who doesn't have a license in hand. I have applied to several places and within 24 hrs I am getting a form rejection letter. Even at my own hospital where I have been working for 5 years won't consider me for any position. I have a total of 10 years of clinical experience and just graduated and I still have no job. I am frantic and having anxiety attacks that I will be losing my job soon because I am getting my license but still won't have another job to go to because no one will give me the time of day.

Specializes in chemical dependency detox/psych.

I just got the call this morning that I am hired! :yeah: I will be working FT in a rehab unit of a LTC facility. It's not quite where I pictured myself, as my internship was in oncology, but it has elements of my internship that appeal to me (wound care, pain management, psych-social issues.)

Specializes in Neuro.

I can tell you that I graduated from a Florida nursing school and my teachers told us that there are no jobs in Jacksonville. They mentioned that some of our December grads are moving out of Jacksonville to work across the country. Just wanted to give you a heads up...
