EXELSIOR College - Lawsuit

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Directly contacted Board of Nursing in NY where they are based to smash some things I have been reading (accredited or not, back and forth). Right after I mentioned the school I was told, "Please, please do not waste your money. There is a lawsuit filed by the attorney general. Again, please do not spend money on this school. That is all I can say at this moment."

Just trying to let everyone know. Still searching for an online associates degree to get me started in nursing. For more questions contact 518.474.3817, Ext. 120

There is a lawsuit filed by 17 former students. After reading about it, I feel it has no merit. Meanwhile, EC remains accredited, as well as an NLN Center of Excellence. Good luck in your search for a program.

I call B.S. on this one!! Excelsior has been a great school for me and they have all the accreditations you could ever need. So what if a measly 17 students filed a lawsuit! People can sue for just about anything but that doesn't mean they'll win, or even have merit. I really do hope you find a program that's right for you, but, you are really barking up the wrong tree here.

The only lawsuit I found was from 17 unhappy students from February. Nothing on file from the NY AG. There is an unrelated class action suit, FTC, and IN AG investigation into the college network one of the deception claims is that even when asked to cease & desist by EC reps of TCN claimed affiliation, implied endorsement and claimed they acted on behalf of admissions of EC.

EC is still NY BoN approved ( http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/nurse/nurseprogs-assoc.htm ) and not only NLN accredited but with distinction 3 times: http://www.nln.org/recognitionprograms/coe/currentlist.htm

The distance-based nursing programs offered through Excelsior College are legitimate, accredited, and designed for the self-motivated adult learner.

The harsh truth is that many people enroll when their personal learning styles are not conducive to successful completion of distance-based education.

We must remain cognizant that a certain subset of the student population will never thrive at online learning due to personal characteristics. I'd conjecture that many of these people need the orderly structure of attending a physical classroom.

Excelsior is not for everyone, but please do not bash the school based on a miniscule number of poor experiences from former pupils who may very well have been unprepared for the rigors of distance-based nursing programs.

Many people attempt online and distance education programs presuming it's easier than classroom learning and are shocked to find out that they must be a disciplined, independent learner with strong critical thinking skills. This is not just in nursing but other majors

I'm not bashing at all, and as for barking up the wrong tree I merely put a post on what I was told directly by Board of Nursing. I wasnt trying to offend anyone but I have read constantly to *always* contact the local board which I did. Just passing on what I was told. @justbeachynurse I strongly agree.

Don't shoot the messenger!

Hard to call BS on the Board of Nursing. The number is provided in post so you can call directly yourself. Obviously several people are happy with them but I for one felt uncomfortable with conversation with them. I'm sorry if I offended you, I was just sharing what I was told.

Thank you, more difficult than I expected so far. Didn't put any research into lawsuit as I took her word for it.

Some members of the Georgia Board of Nursing had similar things to say, as well.....right before they handed me that RN license.:D. That was in 2010. Fast-forward to today, I'm here sitting at the mailbox waiting for my BSN diploma to arrive in the mail from Excelsior College...just finished that one in August, while some of those same folks still say I won't amount to anything or get very far if I go through Excelsior. What I say to that, "hold that thought, or better yet, follow me to the bank"! :cheeky:

Who would have thought people in power would strrrrrrrrrrrrretch the truth.....must be a politician. Evidently, she didn't do her research, either, so don't feel bad.;)

odd that this is your one and only post.
