Excelsior MSN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Hi, I am about to finish my BSN at in Dec. and am wanting to go straight on for my MSN. I was going to do it at WGU because it would have been a smooth transition but you have to do a research project at your place of employment for the Capstone. I am not currently employed and would like to finish my degrees while we can afford for me to be off work. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to complete an MSN at Excelsior? I like the idea of Excelsior anyway because they offer an MSN in Informatics. I talked to them on chat but the link the guy sent me was a time completion calculator and it said it would take 0.0 years to complete, obviously that's wrong hahaha! Anyone done it in a year or less, or know if that's possible?

Judging by the comments on this forum, the State of California does not accept the BScN from Excelsior. Perhaps you shoud rethink studying at this university. Who else doesn't recognize their education?

To the OP:

I am completing my BSN through Excelsior and I know they have a capstone requirement for both BSN and MSN. Sadly, even though I am almost there, I don't know what the capstone requires for either degree.

To BellyDancer66:

The OP is asking about MSN, not an entry level BSN. The OP states she is getting her BSN through , not Excelsior. The OP never mentioned California and though I believe it to be one of the most beautiful States I have ever visited, it is not the only State (or Province) in North America. California only cares if your entry level RN is from Excelsior and Excelsior does not (currently) offer an entry level BSN, only an RN to BSN. I guess if one's original degree was from Excelsior and now one was getting a BSN or MSN then it might be relevant. California will also accept applications for licensure from Excelsior graduates from before December 2003.

Can us Excelsior nursing grads even visit California? Lol? I heard there MSN is approximately 12-18 months.

Haha! I think we might be turned away at the border. ;)

Hello nurses!

So, it is the second I'm reading something around these lines, California does not accept some or all degrees from EC?

Only if you graduate from EC for your initial RN licensure from the ADN program. Anything else is fine - EC is accredited.

Good. Thanks for the clarification

I've been putting this off for so long but I think I have to finally kick the bucket and apply to EC's MSN program. I'm just so scared because I've never done schooling online. I have no idea what it's like. Im concerned about how many hours I would have to spend weekly and the program consists of mostly paper writing. I'm not that great with papers. Any thoughts, suggestions or words of advice is greatly appreciated.

I spend maybe an hour a day reading forum posts and responding, and a couple of hours composing my weekly forum topic contribution. I usually spend a good portion of one of my days off doing the reading for any class. Usually there are only a couple of papers -- one individual paper and one group paper/project. Bear in mind that this is generally spread out over 15 weeks (a couple of courses are 8 weeks, but not many), so it's not that overwhelming. I'm taking two classes right now, though, so it's a bit more! Start with just one course. I'm sure you'll do fine! Most of the classes besides the papers/projects consists of communicating with your classmates in discussion forums, and judging from your posts here, akanini, you are a fine communicator and will not find that overly challenging. ;) I think you'll enjoy the online format!

Akanini,

Especially if you have never done schooling online, you should pursue it. This is an arena that will be used increasingly by individuals looking to stay current in their careers. I am near completion of my MSN at Excelsior and have found it manageable. Group projects are stressful because work schedules come first and sometimes it is difficult to keep up with team mates. I like Excelsior because I can make multiple payments throughout the semester to pay my tuition. This makes it affordable.

Thanks so much for responding. I just started on Aug. 26th. I'm taking one class and I feel sooooo lost. lol. any types/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm pursuing the Education track.
