Excelsior LPN to RN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone is currently taking the Excelsior LPN to RN ... and how goes it??!!

I'm not sure of this program, but I thought I would bite the bullet & try to pass the 1st of the 7 exams required.

I am also wondering why it is that you do not have to enroll to take the 1st two exams - Health Safety & Transition? Are they easier than the 5 remaining exams, and is this their way of getting you to take the worm? Or, are they harder than the 5 remaining exams - which would "weed out" the serious from those who aren't?

Thank you!

Hmmmm. I wonder why they are doing this? Might it be to improve acceptance of Excelsior grads in the last few states that don't accept a degree from Excelsior? It's just speculation. I know that the only reason I chose to go the brick and mortar route was that at the time, Maryland did not allow Excelsior grads to sit for the NCLEX-RN. Has that changed?

Yes, that has changed: Excelsior College | State Board Requirements

I think it's to ensure students are better prepared and to eliminate the functionality of companies like TCN for EC students.

Hello! I was wondering if there is a list of pre-reqs that I can take (CLEP) prior to enrolling at Excelsior. The academic advisors don't wanna review transcripts or tell u a course plan of study until the enrollment fee is paid... and I would like to hold off on paying that for a while since I am a new nurse and I am short on $.

Thanks in advance!!!

What is the cost per exam for the challenge exams, I was trying to register and i saw $1,415.00. i thought it was $225 for each.

I am really eager to start doing this LPN to RN online program with EC, I just want to make sure I have all the right steps. They called me and told me they are waiting on my transcripts so do I just sit back and wait until they have it.

$1415 is the course. Exams haven't been $225 for a few years. The cost is ~$325 for 3 credit nursing exams

I'm curious, I'm currently in the LPN-RN bridge in my college. This school seems kinda fishy. Where's your clinical experience? 2-3 days for a clinical practical and then boards? Wow.

I assure you it is credible and legit. I got my ASN and BSN from them and am contemplating a MSN from them now. The clinical in the end is not a practicum; it is an examination of clinical skills that students already have prior to enrollment, along with applying those skills in performing patient care scenarios for the 3-day testing period. That's why it is called the Clinical Performance Nursing Examination (CPNE).;)

I graduated from excelsior 12/06 -and have worked as an RN since 2007 my only regret is that California does not except the program due to not having enough clinical hours and although I have applied they don't even offer alternatives to gain clinical hours I even went back to school and obtain my BSN from a traditional college but that still didn't matter. I said all of that to say this make sure when choosing Excelsior you never plan on moving
