Excelsior LPN to RN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone is currently taking the Excelsior LPN to RN ... and how goes it??!!

I'm not sure of this program, but I thought I would bite the bullet & try to pass the 1st of the 7 exams required.

I am also wondering why it is that you do not have to enroll to take the 1st two exams - Health Safety & Transition? Are they easier than the 5 remaining exams, and is this their way of getting you to take the worm? Or, are they harder than the 5 remaining exams - which would "weed out" the serious from those who aren't?

Thank you!

Helper-T.

I don't think I will be attending Excelsior College because they don't offer aid to pay for the Nurse Core classes. There is aid for pre-requisites only.

There is aid for the courses not the challenge exams.

I started Excelsior in Aug 2012. I am completely done with nursing courses and all of my core except a 2 more which I will begin in July. Then it's on the 2 assessment classes which I will start sept. Finally I will begin the exams to finish up and get ready for Nclex. I have been blessed all my classes have been covered between aid and college loans! I am so excited knowing I have one more 8week semester before I am beginning the end of the process!!!

I have been checking into Excelsior too for my RN. They do not meet with you in a public place. They do not meet with anyone in person, only online. That is College network and they are a scam. my friend told me about Chancellors Learning Systems and she is about half way through. The best part of the program is a workshop to prepare you for the clinical weekend.

I would be careful if they are pretending to be the school.

Excelsior does not meet with students personally. Before signing with Chancellors (or TCN or Rue or Achieve Test Prep) contact the admissions and/or nursing departments at EC to get information from the source. EC provides free study guides for the challenge exams to enrolled students.

Go straight though Excelsior.

Tobey810 did you know this post is over 2 years old?

Hi, I have been working as an LPN for 5 years now and have decided to get my RN License, because of my work schedule I may have to go the online route. I am an in the class room type of student, any advise on the Excelsior program. What is the 7 exams I see people talking about.

The seven exams are the challenge exams of the nursing curriculum. There is a great thread in the FAQ section of this forum that explains the program. No need to go through a third party publisher of study guides (the college network, achieve test prep, Rue, DLSI or others) as they are neither affiliated nor endorsed by EC nor are they able to advise you on admissions or academics. Contact EC directly for queries.

If you are not a strong independent learner you may struggle with EC. Look and see if any of your local community colleges offer a hybrid class ( online classes with in person support, in person lab & clinical). My local school has a 1 day a week LPN to RN program. You meet once a week for lab, testing, clinical and the class work is completed online.

Better hurry! As of July 2015, the exams will all be a thing of the past for the LPN-ASN/RN program.

No, the exams will still exist, but will require a pre-conference to become eligible to sit for the exam: Excelsior College | Nursing Theory Examination Changes

Yep, I know. I should have stated 'the exams as we know them'...words I used when describing the changes to a coworker who has been with the college for a while and has yet click on the hyperlinks regarding the changes. She was floored when I told her that she doesn't have as much time as she thought she had.
