A Boston Herald photographer took the following pictures of two men shooting up heroin in the Public Garden in Boston. Unfortunately, one of the men overdosed and the photographer caught the whole thing.

How terribly sad. I just don't understand why people do this. Why do they do the illegal drugs? Why do they do the ETOH? Why do they/we (unfortunately I am included in this one) use tobacco products? Why would someone risk their life or freedom by engaging in recreational drug use? Why do they take that "first hit" or that first "shot" when they know what it can do to you? What it has done to thousands of people? Why???????????????

I don't know why I started smoking. I guess it was to be "cool". Not as much education back then that there is now.

I guess I could expound even further (i.e. over eating, non-compliance w/ med regimens, sedentary lifestyle, etc).......but I won't.

I think I need to quit smoking.

Wow! What a strange case of the photographer being in the right place at the right time. Very unfortunate for the user and his friends. Maybe one life will save two...

You could only hope that this could possibly scare some future kid out of using that poison.

Senseless....totally sensless. With all the talk of more pure heroin, ie. China White, etc., you'd think these people would have a clue. I guess the "It won't happen to me" attitude is too ingrained.

When I was young I never thought it would happen to me either. I never even thought I would get old and look at me now.

I have heard of heroin addicts learning of an overdose resulting in death and immediately going out and trying to locate the dealer so that they can get the same type of heroin that killed their acquaintance. Reasoning that it must have been really good.
