This is all meant in good fun, no flames please!

Do you share my view?? :chuckle :chuckle

All ER patient complaints are of psych origin until proven otherwise (especially abdominal pain and syncope)

:D

No i do NOT agree.

Its only a joke darn it!! I know that not all patients are making it up, but at first glance to most of them, it seems like it is..

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN GOOD FUN AND THAT IS IT. Nobody actually practices like this!!

I guess you havent been around ER long enough yet..Oh wait nevermind, you arent even out of school yet..Wait and see after you work ER for a little while..

LMAO

All i said was that i DON'T agree.

I did work in an ER for awhile (about a year and a half). Too little staffing, too much turnover, and no night positions available weren't worth sticking around for in that hospital. And the plan in 2 years is to work in the ER at the hospital i'm currently in.

And thanks for reminding me that i'm a student, since the 40 hour school week made me completely forget that i'm still in school. :roll

I agree, especially where i work now we seem to have an incredible number of psych pt, drug seekers, etoh abusers and people who seem to think a trip to the ED is a night at the opera. It's amazes how many "sick" people bring their entire family to enjoy the ambience of the Emergency Department. I've been in emergency services for 24 years in four different states, I've worked, suburban, rural and inner city EMS and nothing compares to the patients where work now. It is truly mind numbing.

Doesn't mean I don't like it. :D

now now children, let's play nice!

12years later and i do agree. i have seen it all i think!

however, my bread and butter depents on all of the nuts! (i wonder, nuts..., bread and butter,///\\\\\ ahhhh peanut butter!)

and now the saga continues on "as the er turns"

we last left clint as he walked up to the triage rn: " ah hi, i had a tick stuck in my side and i want it checked out."

triage rn " i don't see a tick"

clint "well, i pulled it out last week"

triage rn "i can't find the site where the tick was, can you show me?"

clint "sure, it was here,....oh, maybe here..... aaahhhh here, it was there a week ago. maybe the doctor can find it"

clint "do you think after the doctor sees me that you and i can have dinner?"

trige rn " i'm sorry, i don't date patients"

clint "date, who said anything about date? i just wanted a pt lunchbox and a ride home!"

BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I voted that they are all sick because there are many types of "sickness".............if they are nuts, they would fall in the category of being "mentally sick". If they are half and half, then lots of those patients show up on regular floors...mental and physical treatment necessary for recovery. If they are really sick, they may have a hard time getting a bed because the mentally sick and the half physically & mentally sick patients will be patients for awhile.........or they go home and return before we can forget who they are. :D

:roll :roll

Since I am now playing in the ED......I can say honestly that 50% are sick and 50% are nuts! And some days they are all nuts!!!! Except for the guy that came in with palpitations that has suddenly developed diaphoresis and a pallor!!!

He was probably having a GI bleed from all the alcohol he drinks..only kidding...I always eliminate psych first, there is always some degree of psych problems..i mean chief complaint, lasting more than 72 hours is always the first signal...

Do you do medical clearance for jail?

I have gone an entire 12 hour shift with nothing but medical clearances and baker acts...sad..oh, and not to forget the marchman acts...it is so much better to bring them to the er and let these guys sleep until their levels come down than to let them sleep it off on the park bench...go figure...and we didn't have a bed for a critical patient because of this??? something is wrong in this world..

what are baker and marchman acts?

Gotta love those fake seizures while at the commisioners office! You know the ones that are willing to do almost anything so that they don't have to go to jail!
