This is all meant in good fun, no flames please!
Do you share my view?? :chuckle :chuckle
All ER patient complaints are of psych origin until proven otherwise (especially abdominal pain and syncope)
marchman acts are when the cops come in with these poor people from the streets that were just sleeping and their alcohol level is "too high" to stay at jail >300.Baker acts are the patients that are a threat to themselves or others...mostly others when we tell them they are going to be staying at the psych hospital for 48 hours..
ETOH >300...most of our drunks walk around with clear speech at 200 every day of the week!!! I think if they got any lower they would seize!!!

I work at a hospital with the only psych floor in a 75 mi radius. We get them all. They all seem to know the routine, you get triaged, then put in a room, then you want something to eat, and you have to go to the bathroom, but FIRST and foremost... you HAVE to have a cigarette!!!
we have recently been declared a smoke-free campus. Yes! we deny them the "right" to leave the ED and have a cigarette and they often go AMA. duh.... :angryfire
It is a vicious circle, we are scounging for rooms to put sick people in and we have 5 psych pts all in rooms (if they stay in their rooms). What do you do? It takes on the average of 6 hours for them to become pre-certed by their insurance companies, so they wait.

here's something fun. in our er, if they are suicidal or homicidal, they are certed and can't smoke or sign out ama!
