My daughter shows at AQHA horse shows. One of our friends showed an article he wrote to the local newspaper. He was saying how the H1N1 is man made by our very own government. ANd that the government is going to force us to take immunizations against our will. BLAH BLAH BLAH:uhoh3:

He also said that the flu of 1918 was CAUSED by flu vaccination. http://www.bariumblues.com/1918_flu_vaccination.htm

I think if you look at the home page of this article..that says it all.

I ditto your rolling eyes: :uhoh3: ;)

Gotta love a good conspiracy.

That fellow that said that is an idiot. Not only was there NO vaccine in 1918 but no one even knew what a virus was. A virus is so small that no one had a way of seeing one back them. Do a little historic research. The pandemic did lead to the theory that there were things smaller than bacteria(bacteria could be seen under a microscope back then but the microscopes were not powerful enough to see a virus). After the pandemic the search was on for the thing that caused it. A very powerful microscope that could identify a virus was developed much later, MUCH LATER. Back in 1890 there were people who said that the small pox vaccine caused women to give birth to children with cows heads. You going to believe them also? That very vaccine that caused the panic led to small pox being crossed off the list of things that plague humankind. You can't develop a vaccine unless you can culture the offending agent out and study it. To do that you have to be able to SEE it.

There you go again, using a little common sense. ;)

not to quibble, but the article does not say that a flu vacine caused the problem....only that vacines appeared to cause a problem....

In 1918, a guy came back from the Great War to the farming community that my great-grandparents lived in. Everyone was so happy he was back alive, they had a "dinner on the grounds" (read: picnic after church at church). The guy had a cough, but he'd been on coal burning trains to get home, and it wasn't unusual. Pretty much everyone in the area came to the picnic.

Two weeks later, 1/3 of the people at the picnic were dead. The guy had Spanish flu; he died, his entire family died except some cousins who lived away. Whole families were wiped out, others were left with only one or two survivors. My grandparents both caught it, and my grandma's older brother died of it. I assure you, none of these folks had any money for vaccines. The town never recovered, and the population today is only now approaching what it was in 1918 -- many of the survivors moved away.

But yeah, the government was manipulating viruses that they didn't know existed yet. Let me get my tinfoil hat on, that CIA chip in my neck's giving me a headache....*grin*

There was at least one vaccine against a virus that early -- rabies. Obviously not the more sophisticated one we use now.

Dolce, I couldnlooked it up -- the human version wasn't out until the 1960's...

The only vaccines in use during WWI were for bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, and smallpox (not that they could see the virus, they just knew that cowpox pus protected you from smallpox). Even so, the last US outbreak of smallpox was just in 1947 http://dermatology.about.com/cs/smallpox/a/smallpoxhx.htm.

The military was making strides with vaccination, http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/milmedhist/chapter3.htm , but the vaccinations were primarily for the troops. Nobody brought any vaccines to Malvern, Alabama in 1918....

How exciting - it has been ages since I came across a freaky new conspiracy theory
