American With Ebola Headed to NIH

The few news reports said she was admitted Friday in serious condition. I pray she, also, recovers.

I'm glad to see the majority of the American public has finally learned that there is no reason for the panic shown last fall. Maybe that's because the politicians are on to other issues, maybe it's because people actually became educated, or maybe because the news realizes it can't sensationalize Ebola coming into the US any longer. Now, most of the comments are positive whereas before the majority felt all volunteers should be treated in W Africa and considered them selfish for not refusing to come to the US.

I'd like to think we nurses who wrote blogs, responded to to the fear mongers' comments, etc, helped contribute to this "new" understanding of Ebola. I'm sure, though, it is the outstanding care these returning HCWs received here and their recovery without the anticipated rampaged spread is what convinced the public and shut up the politicians.

Science works. Maybe someone should call Rand Paul, Chris Chistie, Andrew Cuomo, Donald Trump, etc, and let them know!

Hoever, I wouldn't count on any new insight on the part of politicians. When Kaci Hickox had won her freedom and was returning home, Christie continued to use language about her "illness," and stated "I hope she recovers." He knew perfectly well she wasn't sick, but he wasn't going to let facts get in the way of his agenda.

A larger group of medical professionals will be arriving and self-isolating/monitoring near some of the facilities set up to handle such diseases like Ebola:

Eleven Americans are being flown back to the United States as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigates the possibility they might have been exposed to Ebola in Sierra Leone.
