Calling all LA County Sheriff's Dept. Nurses

Hello! I can't find any LA Sheriff's Dept. nurses on here so I am starting a new thread. I am waiting for my background check to clear, then will work amongst you! What do you like about your job? What don't you like? What are the facilities like? I have many questions about what to expect. Feel free to post about anything r/t LA County Jail Nursing. I have 3-6 months to read your posts!

Hello :) I have been following this thread for months. I too, received my medical clearance a few weeks ago and am waiting for that call! Tom1, like you, I live in OC and am hoping for Los Angeles as my workplace. Lancaster would be soooo far. I am really excited to get started, as this has been such a long process. Please let me know if anyone starts or is starting soon. I think the next step is orientation!

Yes, I think orientation starts soon too. I hope it starts, I'm beginning to like working 3 days a week! I will like the 8 hour shift though! Erica27, I can't imagine they would put us through this process without at least trying to get us close to home! Either way, after 6 months you can request a transfer or so I've heard. Waiting for a letter or phone call from the hiring department!

Working 3 12s is my favorite, but LA County has the best benefits and great pay too, especially if you stay there, and lots of paid time off. I know there is an orientation Sept 1st, but it's too late for that one for us I think...Maybe we will be in the next Orientation batch together?....oh,and I'm hoping for dayshift of course ;) I have also heard that you can request to transfer facilities/shifts after probation is up(6months) Let us know when you get that call, maybe any day now for us :) OR could be a few more months :(

When did you guys interview for the RN1 position? Nov, Dec 2010 or Jan 2011??

Late Dec 2010 was my oral interview. Is anyone else cleared and waiting to start?

I can't even remember when I interviewed it's been so long. I applied last September though. Long process!

Hi Erika,

How did you find out about the orientation on Sep. 1st. I hope we can get into one of these quickly too. As far as I know, we're hired since we passed all the pre-employment requirements. Keep me posted! Thanks!

hello everyone...any news yet? has anyone recieved any notice ...this is such a long process:uhoh3: hope to hear something soon

Nothing yet! I did talk with a nurse who works at the towers and she said that after the physical it goes fairly quick, but who knows what 'quick' means. :) When did you receive your physical passing letter? I received mine on the 9th of Aug. I'm ready to work Thanksgiving and Christmas! Just want to start!

Hi! I heard about the orientation from a coworker, who has a relative who is starting then...my physical clearance paper came on August 5th, I think, and was dated August 2nd. I think I turned in my original application late July of 2010! I have been thinking about this for so long...It's starting to seem like it'll never happen, haha.

I did know someone who went really quickly after her physical, like about 2 weeks it seems, but it seems like alot of us on this board are waiting longer.

But have some of us been waiting months since clearing their physical? Every time my phone rings I think it's 'that' call.

Has anyone started and care to share about what the job is like?

Maybe we will get our calls tomorrow :)

I live in Florida and I am worry about the interview how many times do I have to be in California for this process? Thank u

There is the oral interview, then the background interview, then the physical. I believe that would be 3 days minimum. Good luck!
