Help with CRNA admissions
I'm pretty sure you need a BS in Nursing, 1 year experience as an ICU RN. Your GPA probably depends on the program and how many applicants. While in school you must maintain (I think) 84%. 19 years old, are you sure this is what you want to do? It's great bucks, but personally,I would experience nursing first before deciding.

I am starting too, Erica. I'm still in the dark about how long orientation is and where I'll be placed. I hope it's in downtown L.A.. Congrats to you! It was a long wait, but worth it. See you on the 31st.

The medical exam is just a physical that includes hearing, eyesight, urinalysis for drugs and overall health. It takes about an hour or so and you need to fill out an inventory of your health history.

Thanks for the post. I hope to get either a phone call or letter in the mail too. The medical clearance implies that we are hired, but need to wait for further instructions from the hiring department. It also says that if something happens healthwise to notify them within days or risk disqualification for 'employment'. I'm interpreting this as I'm hired, just need to wait for the next step, which is probably orientation. Hope it will be soon, I'm working registry and am on call for 10 different hospitals and I don't like the cancellations and not knowing where I'll be each day. I'm ready for consistency. (I'm not getting any younger!) :)

There is the oral interview, then the background interview, then the physical. I believe that would be 3 days minimum. Good luck!

Older Nursing students
Well, congrats to you for finally getting to do something for yourself. I have been an RN for over one year now and can say that it was challenging but well worth the pursuit. I too am middle-aged and want to encourage you to not think of yourself as old! When you start nursing, you'll see what I mean! I have met many 50 somethings that have just graduated. I know of a 58 year old man who just graduated! I also worked with a 65 year old man who has his LVN, but wants his RN. It's time that stereotype of nurses are buried! I've met 270 pound men who are nurses. The women I've met in nursing are good people. I will warn you though, if you haven't been an avid reader over the last few years, like I wasn't, it will be difficult on your brain for awhile. My head hurt and I needed relaxation techniques to ward off anxiety. I took ativan for a short time too. But I also met wonderful people who were all in the same boat as me regardless of age! The job market for new grads was not good, but it will be by the time you graduate! Also, I've met some wonderful people that were patients of mine and they encourage me with their resolve under difficult circumstances. Good luck on your adventure!

Nothing yet! I did talk with a nurse who works at the towers and she said that after the physical it goes fairly quick, but who knows what 'quick' means. :) When did you receive your physical passing letter? I received mine on the 9th of Aug. I'm ready to work Thanksgiving and Christmas! Just want to start!

Hi Erika, How did you find out about the orientation on Sep. 1st. I hope we can get into one of these quickly too. As far as I know, we're hired since we passed all the pre-employment requirements. Keep me posted! Thanks!

Yes, I think orientation starts soon too. I hope it starts, I'm beginning to like working 3 days a week! I will like the 8 hour shift though! Erica27, I can't imagine they would put us through this process without at least trying to get us close to home! Either way, after 6 months you can request a transfer or so I've heard. Waiting for a letter or phone call from the hiring department!

Hi, I received mine last week and am wondering too. Just waiting for the hiring department to contact me with further info. I hope that the job is in downtown L.A. since I live in OC. This has been a long process, but I think it will be worth it.

Congrats on your start date. When did you have your physical? I'm still waiting for a start date call. I had my physical two weeks ago, backgrounds are done. Let me know when you are starting! I don't know what it's like in the jail, but I've heard it's a good job!

Hi jin2003, I just had my physical last week and they told me I would know within 3 to 4 weeks the results. They told me the next step is to be approved by the hiring department and the CEO who approves the budget. How long ago did you have your physical?
