Wait for AS or complete BSN

U.S.A. Colorado

I have seen that there are a lot of people talking about the wait lists at community colleges for the AS Nursing degrees. I to went round and round in circles trying to find the right one for me. What I ended up doing is placing my name on a waiting list and then continued to take all of the prerequisites for a BSN program. I finished all of the prerequisites and was accepted to University of Colorado at the Health Science Center before I ever heard anything about being accepted from a waiting list. I guess you have to decide if you want to wait 3-4 years to get into a program that will last 18mo to 2 years or just go straight through and get a BSN degree in 4 years.... For me I did not want to wait 3-4 years to start a 2 year degree I am now starting my Senior year in the fall. Total time from start to Finnish will be right at 4 years.

Congratulations! That was a very smart strategy you used.

Best wishes on getting in at CU!

I've done the same thing while waiting. I can apply to CU this summer and start a year ahead of when I would start at ACC. If I don't get in, I've still got the CC program to fall back on. I hate putting all my eggs in one basket, so this helps me sleep better at night. :)

That is exactly what I am going to try and do. I am going to get on the community colleges wait lists here soon, and I am going to be finished with the pre-requisites for UCDHSC and ready to apply next summer. Did you have a really high GPA? Please let me know! I am trying to keep it as high as possible, but working full time and school full time makes it a litte harder. It is a gamble going back and forth and sometimes it can be very discouraging waiting and waiting. I hope and pray I get in the first time I apply!!!

Thanks.

I did the same thing. I took the classes I needed to get on the FRCC wait list and found out that it would be at least 3 to 5 years. I managed to get all of my pre-reqs for UCHSC and UNC done in about 18 months and am getting ready to start my senior year UCHSC. I just recently heard from the community college that my number would be at the top of the list for January 2008, I politely let them know that I hadn't had the time to wait around :)

It makes me feel like there is hope to hear that you have been able to do this. My ultimate goal is to have a degree from CU because that is the number one place I'd like to go. At this point I am just ready to get in somewhere!!! Thank you for the help! ;)

JaeDream,

You should always go for your dreams. It had always been a dream of mine to go to CU an now I am @ UCHSC SON. I also worked full time, and have 2 children. My GPA from CCD was 3.82, after This was amazing to me I. I about killed myself to get it and then find that most of the people I have spoke with had a 4.0. Just a little tip. Your essay is crucial. Have a memorable essay, and keep your grades as high as you can. Good luck and always keep your eyes on your dreams.

Congratulations. You were wise in your approach. Many people are following this same approach, instead of waiting for years.
