Is Denver School of Nursing worth it?

U.S.A. Colorado

I might be having a little "freak out" moment, but I will be applying to the DSN BSN completion program for the October 2013 start. I had originally planned on attending a local CC until they closed their waitlist to start a new admissions program and are not sure when they will start accepting applications again. But, the same program in Fort Collins is estimating accepting applications for Spring 2015, so I can only assume this program will be that date or even further out. I have an AAS degree from a technical college and DSN will accept many of my general education credits, which is a plus. But, just looking at the cost of the course and knowing I will have to have massive student loans is just scary to me. I have tried to find other options, but I am also starting my 6th semester of prereq classes and being the mother of three would just like to get started already so that I can get done! DSN absolutely fits my needs, and I am not really sure it is that expensive when you compare it to other programs (excluding the CCs). Thanks!

You are taking a huge risk. The job market for new graduates in Denver (and everywhere else) is very competitive. I'm sorry but coming from a RN of 8 years nursing school is not worth that kind of $$.

I disagree. I am a Regis student- also paying big bucks to become a nurse. I know the job market here in Denver is tough, but I am not worried. If it's what you love then you do it and you do everything you can to make yourself a competitive candidate to get a job. Get your foot in the door, become an aide, make straight A's; just do whatever you can to secure your future nursing career :)

Kerleigh722 - Thank you! I have tried to talk myself out of it and have failed. This is what I have wanted for 10 years and have been working so hard to get A's in all my prereqs. I did talk to my neighbor, who just graduated from the Regis program last month, and she agrees get in school and get it done! I know it is not the cheapest program, but it is not the most expensive, and I really think I will get a good start at DSN. Next month cannot get here fast enough to finally put the application in the mail!

My dad always told me “You get what you pay for” and in the case of DSN he was 100% correct! If you look at my comments on this site you’ll see that I’m (like a ton of other DSN grads) very happy with the education received and the skills I was trained in from DSN. I got a job right after graduation from a connection I made during one of my clinical rotations and I LOVE IT! I feel I’m (and I’ve been told by other Nurses that work with me) better in my skills and better in my overall knowledge than some new grads from programs that have been around forever. Yes, DSN was more than worth it for me.

Nursedenver - Thank you!!!!

+1 for DSON. I am a current student and although it is a LOT of work, the teachers care about their students and the school is great, everyone is super helpful and willing to work with you regardless of circumstance.

Thank you so much! I am ready to work hard and have an education I can be proud of!

Does anyone know what the current payment plans look like (how much a month, etc) and how much the school wants you to pay up-front before beginning classes?

Thank you.

Sorry to interrupt! Just want some input. I am almost finished with my prereqs and have been seriously considering DSN. I have all A's and B's and I have been working as a CNA in the hospital for about a year. Are my chances of getting in the BSN completion program pretty good?

Hello:

I'm orginally from Colorado and one of my friends attends DSN-he loves it and has told me he is getting a top notch education! He applied to Regis and was not accepted so he applied and got in....

Not sure if that will help you

PS my family member is attending Colorado Christian University and loves it....maybe you can look there?

Good Luck!

[COLOR=#003366]Boxer Mama - Hi there! I saw in another post that you were asked to interview! Congratulations! That is very exciting! I have an interview as well and am totally freaking out about the price of DSON. Are you still freaking out?
