Why isn't anyone hiring in PA?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Someone help me or direct me to a place that is hiring (I don't care what facility)!

I recently took and passed my Pennsylvania CNA exam since February 21, 2014 and I still

have yet to find a job!

I applied to a lot of long-term care places and hospitals but it seems they want 1 or more year of experience or they are looking for POOL or PRN. There seems to be

a glut of CNAs in Philadelphia so I think that is why so many are willing to accept CNAs for PRN positions or pool only.

Does anybody here know where they are hiring new grad CNAs? Or places that usually hire new CNAs?

Please help! Thanks!!

It is true that PRN can be a foot in the door. Every position says they want experience. I got hired onto a hospital telemetry floor with zero experience three months out of school. Apply for everything.

I'm in PA. I was lucky enough to get a CNA position in Manorcare and then after a year I got a job in a hospital for better pay.

Home care is great, but some facilities don't count that as experience because it's one patient at a time and not much similar to nursing homes, since every case is different.

I had that issue when trying to get a job at another LTC facility. They didn't count home care or hospital as experience because they wanted specifically LTC experience.

Take a PRN if they are asking; that's my best advice to you.

That will get your foot in the door, plus help you gain experience or a better, FT job.

duskyjewel - Thanks, I will definitely apply to more job listings for which I'm not qualified. I mean, the worse that can happen is I get rejected..right?

Go on indeed.com, type in what area of PA you are interested in and put CNA in the search and go from there. There are a couple places hiring in the Philly area, not sure about other areas.

Best wishes.

I used to work for an agency in PA on the nursing side that specifically dealt with only RN/LPN and I remember getting requests quite often for CNAs (which we did not do). I think 80% of it was from Pittsburgh, but a few from Montgomery County and Philly. I wish I could remember the names of the specific facilities. One was actually, Einstein Montgomery, if I remember correctly. The others were LTC facilities.

Have you googled nursing homes, hospitals in the area that you want?

Find the orgs you want to work for, then compile a list, verify what places are still open (just in case the information is outdated), and go from there.

Again, not sure which area you are looking at; you still haven't specified, and PA is a pretty big state, and even in the most populated are have not that many jobs either posted, you have to look on the websites of the facilities., as well as post your résumé and go from there.

Best Wishes.
