Signing up for my CNA class today!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nicolle and I have been a sahm for about 13 years now. I am a 33yr old mother to 5 children. Right out of highschool I was a HHA for awhile until I had my first child at 20. I always knew I wanted to be in health care, and I would love to aim for one day obtaining my LPN, but alas that is not in the cards for me right now, too much money and too many young kids at home...lol but I am hoping within 1-2 years that will be a reachable goal. I go today at 1 pm to sign up for the 7 week night course. It cost $998 but I can pay it off weekly, which is nice. I am very excited to get started, the class begins on June 22nd, so its not too far off:yeah:. if you have any advice or words of wisdom that would be great!

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hello Wannabcna!

I let my certification expire back in 2002, when I took time off to care for my mother. I've been calling around and found out that I can retest to get mine renewed and I'm really excited about that. It will surely be a boost in experience when it comes time for nursing school.

You will love this! It's so rewarding and expanding on your education like you plan on doing is a really smart thing to do. You can search google and find a practice test for your state. It really is common sense though and you will do awesome.

I'm really happy for you and wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted on how it all goes. :w00t:

Hey everyone, I got all my supplies and my scrubs came in today. My scrubs are so big, I look like a clown..LOL!! its so funny. so ill be purchasing some smaller ones...lol other than that im all ready...only 13 more days to go...lol can you tell im excited?!:yelclap:

I signed up for my CNA class two weeks ago, and it doesn't start until August. =3 Which is good, because I'm doing some pre-reqs for summer quarter. I'm really excited too - my mom and I (I live at home and am single) went and looked at scrubs and I was amazed at how big they were. xD It's a three-week, 9-3 Monday-Friday class. Cost about 800, which isn't too bad.

Best of luck in your class!

lol... that's so funny. When I got my scrubs, I thought, I'll get them a size too big, because I'll be bending and moving and sweating all the time, so I want them to breathe. Weeeell... a size too big in scrubs is a size WAY too big. I was swallowed up in them. So I've learned that lesson, too.

You'll need a stethoscope too, and an aneroid sphygmomanometer (say that 5 times fast!). Don't go overboard on the 'scope, but you'll want a good one. Mine was $40 at the store here, it's a Prestige Medical, and I really like it. Also, and I'm really glad I bought this: one of those ink pens with 4 different color inks. Might come in really handy (it has for me). A watch with a second hand: I found one for $10 at Walmart on the clearance rack in the jewelry section. It has digital & analog together, plus a backlight (you'll need that in clinicals, you might end up in some darkened rooms and needing to check the time). Also, comfy shoes. I swear by New Balance, have for years, but there are many good brands.

What color is your scrubs uniform? Ours is white top, hunter green pants.

Thanks so much for the replies. I swear I feel like a kid on xmas morning with all of this...lol I got my bp cuff and my stethoscope. Our scrubs are teal. I need to get a watch (i know walmart has the best prices dont they?!) I had ordered some shoes as well, but they suck..really bad so im going to invest in a really nice pair. I love new balance as well, they are the only sneaks I have been able to wear for a long time now. I am glad im am not the only one who made the big scrubs mistake...lol

nohika- 800 isnt bad at all, at least i dont think so, i am paying 998, then ill pay another 930 for the phlebotomy and ekg class. It was the cheapest and fastest class around so I jumped on it. I am taking an evening class which is m-th 6-10 for 6 weeks then 1 week of clinicals during the day. i will be graduating on August 14th. What day does your class begin on?

Is anyone watching the new series Hawthorne, and/or Nurse Jackie? I have Hawthorne on right now...seems pretty good so far.

My class starts August 10th, and goes until late August/Early September. =3 It was recommended to me by an RN friend of mine who has 26 years experience in Peds. xD She knows the owner. =3 I may or may not work as a CNA while doing pre-reqs - I really, REALLY need As in all of these classes and I'm not sure if I could support the grades while doing the work.

I forgot to check with the lady what I needed...she mentioned they covered supplies and I'm not sure exactly what else I'd need to buy. xD We get either navy blue or light pink scrubs. What do you guys think? =3
