Signing up for my CNA class today!

Students CNA/MA

Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nicolle and I have been a sahm for about 13 years now. I am a 33yr old mother to 5 children. Right out of highschool I was a HHA for awhile until I had my first child at 20. I always knew I wanted to be in health care, and I would love to aim for one day obtaining my LPN, but alas that is not in the cards for me right now, too much money and too many young kids at but I am hoping within 1-2 years that will be a reachable goal. I go today at 1 pm to sign up for the 7 week night course. It cost $998 but I can pay it off weekly, which is nice. I am very excited to get started, the class begins on June 22nd, so its not too far off:yeah:. if you have any advice or words of wisdom that would be great!

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Thank you for the good luck wishes. This particular class is cheaper than the one offered at BOCES, so I jumped on it. I actually dont start class until June 29th and I will be done August 14th. I ordered my scrubs tonight, and I am just so excited about moving forward with my dreams.

:yeah:congrats Nina2brn! that is awesome! I feel better knowing im not alone in going out into the world again so to speak!

Yikes, that is alot of money! My local community college offered an 8 week course for 599.00, but I missed it, am doing a Florida medical Prep Course, 300.00, one week. But most importantly, you're doing it!

Have you considered a goal of RN vs. LPN? And perhaps a student loan to help with the cost?

Bless your heart, doing this with 5 children- you're superwoman! :)

Good for you mama. Going the extra step to educate yourself to be better for you and your kids. I love to hear stories like yours cause your an inspiration for us moms who only have two or three kids and thinks it's hard. I stayed home with my son for 2 years and thought my brain would not be able to handle school again. I just finished top in my class and am waiting for my Exam. There is this woman in my class who has five kids and she does very well. We have other students who have none and they just seem to slack. Your children will be your motivation when things may seem stressful (my CNA class was very compact and alot to learn in a smal time) and just keep your head up high. You can make it to LPN. There are moms here with small children that have done it. Do it when the time is right for you. There was a single mother on here with six children that went on for her R.N. So anything is possible. You just need a support system (husband, family, God, etc.) But take it one step at a time and let us know how you are doing. Good luck to you and welcome to Allnurses.:redpinkhe

Good luck, wannab! I think you will find this class rewarding and challenging and it will make you think in new ways about a lot of things. I am over halfway done with the CNA half of my summer studies (the next half will be PCA class), and in fact today was my first clinical day. I will just tell you this: stick it out. Even if you're confused or feel like things are moving almost too fast, stick it out. And on the day you do your clinicals, you will spend your first two or three hours confused and scared, but you will do ok!

There are several moms in my class. I don't have kids, but I'm 36 and my life before this was about computers and desk jobs and management. But it takes all kinds, literally. In my class we not only have not only students who literally just finished high school, but also one of my classmates is almost 70. We have construction workers, sahms, waiters, dot-com kids, people going for RN, people only doing this for money, and many other kinds. One of our students is from Peru! You just wait - you will see that there are a lot of people you can connect with in class and you will love it, and you may even make some friends.

Oh and Nina... congratulations!!! :yeah:

This forum has been such a great source of info....i love it:redbeathe! When i went to sign up yesterday, I was also told I could continue on to take the phlebotomy and ekg class to add to my cna...I am going to do it. I know it will be hard work, but I am glad to be doing something for myself, it has been so long since I have done anything. I ordered my scrubs, shoes, bp cuff and stethescope last last im beginning to feel like an adult! (no offense to my 2 yr

I appreciate the way you're feeling, Wannabecna, just gettting & trying on your first pair of scrubs, and just *ordering* supplies gives you a boost, a feeling of "beginning your journey". You're enthusiasm is contagious, thank you!
